      Yet Another Question

Ok, here's one that has probably been answered at some point on here, but I cannot find the answer to. Here's why i ask...

Before making the discovery of this site and becoming more educated about lucid dreaming, I had, every so often, dreams in which I would become conscious and realize I was dreaming, and then wake myself up. This would happen maybe 1 night a week at the most, and this was of course before I realized the potential that these things held...So now that I am trying to have them, they are totally gone. I am still remembering my dreams...sometimes 4 to 5 in one night, but I just cant become lucid. So here's my question...

I know that to attempt to become lucid you are supposed to do a reality test, but in my dreams I am, not to my knowledge in control of myself, which makes that impossible. I guess my question is how can I do a reality test if I dont know I am in a dream? I think I have confused myself Any ideas?

Hey there, I think reality checks for me happen after I'm already aware (or semi-aware) that I'm dreaming. Usually it's just to really make sure and to prove it to myself that I'm in a dream.

I think the other thing with reality checks is that when you do them enough during the day, then that behaviour will follow into your dreams, and increases the chances of you questioning your suroundings at random points. I think the more important part of reality checks is the questioning of reality, rather than the reality check itself (if that makes any sense what so ever.)

Sorry if that confuses you more!
      Good luck!

Thanks for the response Night Wolf,
I think I understand now, or at least have the idea. I am excited to say however, that I have my first actual Lucid Dream last night, which was pretty cool. I knew it was a dream when a friend of mine smashed me in the side with a baseball bat. As I was falling down the stairs, I realized that although I could feel it, it didnt hurt...so thats when I decided it was a dream. I kind of suck at controlling it after I am Lucid, but I guess that can be worked on

That's awesome that you had an LD! Usually it's the first one that's hard to get, so if you keep it up you should be having more in no time.

As for control, don't worry too much about it. It's just inexperience, and as long as you have confidence that you will be able to do what you want to do you'll be in good shape. Let us know if there's any questions we may be able to answer.
