      Breathing during LDs?

I've been trying to have an LD for the past week. So far, I have six pages of notes on my dreams, most of which I don't remember writing, but rather, I feel that I remember dreaming about writing them.

In any case, that's not the main point. I've also gotten myself into a pretty good habit of doing reality checks fequently throughout the day, and I've been trying to experience an LD.

I think I've almost gotten it, but I really have no idea. I keep trying to sort of blend my mental awakeness with my physical sleeping by staying aware of everything as I go to sleep. Some of the sensations I've felt are very strange including, a few times, a slightly orgasmic vibrating feeling through my whole body, during which sudden random thoughts popped in and out of my head for what seemed like only a few seconds, but I can't tell.

The reason I think these type of things only seem to last for seconds is that I'm forced out of them when I take an deep breath. I try not to, but either because of physical instinct or fear of death, I can't seem to stay in these sensations of physically being asleep while trying to 'watch' myself fall asleep and breath at the same time.

I have two questions from this:

      1) Do I need to breath, or am I not awake and only thinking that I'm not breathing?

      2) Am I approaching this in the right way? Does trying to 'blend' from being awake to being asleep do anything, or should I try something else?
      Don't ask.

Welcome to DreamViews. As I am unfamiliar with the events you are
experiencing, I'd suggest contacting your Dream Guide or reading up
      in the Lucid Experiences forum.
Curious about your user name. What's the origin ?
      RC.

Oh, nothing. I just thought it sounded nice. And the P's silent.

That would be us guys with the green backgrounds.

You should have gotten a welcome PM from a DreamGuide when you joined the forum.

This sounds like the beginning of a WILD -- see the Tutorial here.

Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck with WILDs myself. Personally, I would recommend that you start with other methods, such as MILD and WBTB (again, you can find more information about these in the Tutorials section). But perhaps someone with more WILD experience will post here and help you out.

In any case, welcome to the forum, and keep at it! Remember, the only sure way to fail at lucid dreaming is to stop trying.

i'd either concentrate solely on your breathing (in.....out.....in......out....) or not at all.

a number of times i have been drifting off to sleep, and vaguely feel "i'm not breathing', right before i take a deep breath and break my concentration. i've learnt to ignore any such fears, and let my breathing regulate itself...

although, as others have mentioned, the method you appear to be using is typically quite difficult for beginners (and many experts). i'd recommend researching DILD's, WBTB's, HILD's, etc.

      good luck

Ah, yes. Didn't see that since most phpBB forums have the notification either in a javascript window or directly near the PMs link. Thanks.

Thanks, those tutorials were very helpful. It seems, by instinct perhaps, I just went for WILD without knowing enough. MILD seems definitely like a good way to start.

I tried both of those, but it didn't seem to help.

      Yeah, that's exactly what's happening.

Yes, the tutorials on all of those were very helpful excluding DILD. It's what I've read most about, and been trying to follow and develop habits for while doing my own experiments (the ones that turned out to be WILDs), and I don't think that's the way to go.

Thanks to both of you, great advice.
      Don't ask.

Hmmm.... well, I always get a notification, via both a message at the top of the main forum screen and a pop-up window, when I have a new PM. Not sure why you wouldn't. Maybe you have pop-ups blocked?

Also there's an option for notification via email that you can turn on (or off) in your profile. It's called "Notify on new Private Message".

      Oh, and you're very welcome!

No, popup blocked doesn't block javascript boxes on other phpbb forums, but oh well. I'll live.
