Another question

In some dreams I realize I am dreaming and I give myself the opprotunity to awaken. For example...

I had one dream in which I was in a small builing made of windows and one door, I was surrounded by zombies (as in many of my other dreams) and I came to the point where I was surrounded and out of ammo I finally told myself to wake up and I did, is this a form of Lucidity or can the ability to wake yourself from a dream be just a part of the dream in itself. to me it sounds like a form of lucidity seeing that you would have to know you where in a dream to wake yourself up. I don't know, assistance please.
