      New user, First lucid dream

Hey, I was looking for information on lucid dreams, and found the site and these forums, and I had a few questions after looking over the site.

I suppose first i should tell you what happened to me, after only my 3rd time smoking marijuana (Is that legal on these forums, sorry if its not), I went to bed pretty high. That night I had what felt like the longest dream I've ever had, and I could remember every detail of it. Pretty fricken crazy, a family reunion, a pet turtle trapped in a reese cup. This leads me to my first question, I became aware while dreaming that I was dreaming, is this the only thing that seperates an average dream from a lucid one?

In the dream, I was going through my cabinet in my kitchen which was flooded with water, and i was trying to make room for my turtle (I dont even have a turtle....) and as I was taking all the soup out of the cabinet, my grandpa walked up to me and said, "Well, what are you doing? " And I asked myself this question, which made me go "huh?" and I more or less became conscious, but right when I realized this, I woke up. Is it common for begginners to wake up in lucid dreams?

Also, do pshycoactive drugs increase the chances of having lucid dreams (I know they make them weirder), or make dreams seem longer? Because I seem to always have weird crazy dreams each time I smoke.

      Firstly, Welcome to Dream Views!

The answer to your first question is yes, a lucid dream is one in which you become aware that you are dreaming. Another aspect of lucid dreams is dream control, but you do not have to control your dream for it to be lucid.

In answer to your second question, yes, it is quite common for people who are new to lucid dreaming to wake up upon the realisation that they are in a dream. It can be very exciting and sometimes the rush that you feel can wake you up. With time, you will learn to calm yourself and maintain your lucidity.

I find that smokin da herb has a shocking affect on my dream recall. Not too sure about other drugs though, but there are some natural supplements that I would recommend over psychoactive drugs. Vitamin B6 and melatonin (Is this right?) are supposed to be very good for dreaming in general.

Hope you have fun here, and don't hesitate to ask questions!

weed and shrooms have never done anything for my dreams.

Usually when I go to bed feeling good, and get a long night sleep I have the best dreams.

Speaking of which, I am going to bed... wish me luck!

I'll try to cover all of your questions quickly and easily.. Ok first...

Yes it is very common for new lucid dreamers to get pushed out of their dream by all of the excitement of finding that they are in a dream.

Next, Lucid, by definition means 'concious' or to be concious. So, put this into context, you have to be lucid to have a lucid dream right? So this means you have to be concious and aware that you are in a dream. In some cases control may be hard to attain but as long as you are concious in your dream you are haveing a lucid dream.

Last but not least, Drugs have a VERY different effect on all people and not everyone may react to them differently. I, personally find that my dreams either suffer greatly (in respect to recall) or are brilliant (again, recall) when I smoke. It is completly random... But I also dont smoke too much so I dont know the effect it would have on a regular user

      Hope I helped
God, grant me the courage the change the things I can, the serenity to accept the things I can't, and the wisdom to know the difference...
