      Dream Recall question

Ok so last night i recorded 2 dreams in my dream journal. The first one was at around 2am and the second was at 6:30am when i got up for school. This was my first time using my DJ and i basically just started remembering my dreams about 3 days ago. When i got to school and looked at my DJ i had almost no memory of my 2am dream. I only remember 1 tiny little part of it and that is all. I was just wondering if this was normal and if my memory of dreams from really early in the morning would improve. If you have any more tips for me feel free to share them. I have already read all the tutorials on Dream Recall.

Well, that's the reason to keep a dream journal. It's completely normal for a dream to fade away and for you to forget it entirely as the day wears on. But as long as you've written it down in your journal, you've preserved it. There are detailed accounts of dreams in my dream journal that I've completely forgot about until I went back through the journal and re-read the entry. If I don't sit down and record my dreams as soon as I wake up, I forget them altogether with not even a recollection of bits or parts of the dream. It's just gone.

I can't say that your memory of early-morning (or middle of the night) dreams will improve, but that shows the importance of recording dreams in a journal.

So keep up the good work with the dream journal! Hope that answers your question.

Yes, that's pretty normal. That's why it's important to write down as much as you can remember as soon as you wake up -- if you wait, the memory may fade away.

Damn, Burnsey, you beat me to it!

This has been my experience also.. Its good to go ahead and write them down as soon as you wake up becasue you tend to forget many details if not everything if you wait..

I don't know if my experience is necessarily true for anyone else, but when I started to get fascinated with my dreams and starting taking fairly detailed notes of them immediately upon waking each time, rather than waiting until I got up in the morning, I eventually started to record a lot more than I expected to each morning. I often record as many as three or four dreams by the time I get up, and sometimes as many as six or seven (my record so far was eight on February 8). It's no longer unusual for me to sometimes wake up even after only the first three to five hours of sleep in the night and remember at least one dream in fairly good detail.

I noticed that now I almost always "automatically" wake up after approximately the first four hours of sleep, sometimes remembering a dream, sometimes not. Then I tend to wake up several times throughout the rest of the morning, remembering at least one (and sometimes two or three) dreams to record each time. Usually, it doesn't take long to fall back asleep.

All I really did was start taking notes of my dreams each time I woke up at night remembering them, and all this started happening on its own.
