Damn! I wake when I become lucid.

Has anybody else has this problem? As soon as you realize you're dreaming you automatically wake up. Frustrating! Could it be that I actually woke first and then realized I was dreaming? If anybody else has had troubles with this I'd love to hear what you did about it as it feels I've run into a wall (after doing well with recall etc.). BTW, nice community here, my first post. Have a great weekend!

this is common. my first lucid lasted all of 2 seconds. my next dozen or so were mostly 5-15 seconds (with a couple 1 minutes).

you just have to work your way up.check out the tutorials section for tips on stabilizing/increasing realism, etc.

staying calm is the best way to avoid premature awakening...welcome

      Welcome to Dreamviews

Also, there are several techniques to prevent you from waking up, whether you've just turned lucid or have been lucid for a while already.
One thing you can do is spread your arms to make a T shape out of yourself and then spinning around. Another is to rub your hands together while looking at them and concentrate on the feeling and sight.
These techniques don't always work, but they sure do give you a better chance of staying lucid/asleep.
I've gotten lucid twice so far. The first time I had a blackout and woke up immediately, but then second time I remembered to rub my hands together, and although my vision went completely black, concentrating on my moving hands pushed me back into the dreamworld. ^.^

For me, the big trick in learning to stay asleep was to not try to take too much control. When I realized I was dreaming, I would think 'Oh great, I'm going to turn all those flowers into hamburgers', or something silly like that. But the act of trying to take that much control would wake me up every time. Just try to walk around and take everything in, and don't try to make too many changes...
