I just had my first Lucid Dream! I sleeping set my alarm for like 3:00 turned on "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC and i heard it while sleeping....and realized this was dreaming! In my dream i actually turned on my radio and ...what do you know it was "Thunderstruck" So i realized OMG Im dreaming! Has anybody had any experiances with AC/DC in their dreams?

wow, im amazed, i never thought this kind of thing actually worked without a machine to sense when your in rem sleep. How did you time it so perfect? did you just guess using the 90 minute intervals of rem?

the whole 90 minute intervals of REM is a bit too simplified for the actual nature of your REM cycles. As the night progresses, REM periods become longer and the time between them become shorter. At 3 o' clock (depending on the time you went to sleep), it is likely that you are having more REM than earlier in the night. Even then, you still have dreams during NREM (the time when rapid eye movement is not occuring), though they are not as vivid as dreams during REM. So yes, I wouldn't call it "perfect timing," because it is not as if dreaming only occurs for about 5 minutes every 90 minutes... it is much more often than that.

Explore your mind - you are saying that it was a coincidence that his alarm clock went off when he was dreaming, right? Or that he turned ont he radio to thunderstruck? Because the first one I agree with but not the second one. It is very likely that the alarm went off and then you turned on a radio. Just this morning I was a contestant on an American Idol-like show and this foreign exchange girl at my school was giving me this fancy little bon-bon type dessert and when my alarm clock went off I think I associated it with the dessert (like it "came with it"). I have a theory that possibly at first you are too deep a sleep to hear things in the real world, but as the sounds draw you out it is represented in your dream. Just a theory but it could have some validity to it.

Lastly... I'd like to point out that your mind could probably have turned on the radio in your dream, knowing that your alarm would go off at 3. I've had many experiences when I've woken up within a very close time to my alarm clock. My alarm clock goes off at 6... I've woken up many times within 10 minutes (just this morning I woke up at about 5:51). It is very surprising how good of an internal clock you have. Without looking think of what the time is... look and see if it matches up. This probably does not illustrate my point because it is not unlikely that you are way off.... but yes... if you want some night tell yourself to wake up at a certain time... it is very likely you'll wake up within a couple minutes of that time with some practice.

I had a similar experience, only with the band KISS instead. Being my favorite band, they often find their way into my dreams. Sounds like you had a cool night!

Well, not necessarily the case. We do know that the mind will incorporate any outside sensory input (form waking life) into our dreams. We also know that time (as in sequence of events and span) can be altered and give us the illusion of things happening out of order or at certain points in time.

I personally think that the following happened:
      [list]1) the alarm went off
      2) the music was processed into your brain
      3) your consciousness (or mind) incorporated this music into your current, already-in-progress dream.
      4) to explain this music, it created the memory of you turning your radio on - when in fact, you were already hearing the music since the alarm went off.[list]
By creating this memory, you woke up believing that in your dream you started to hear the music AFTER you turned your dream radio on.
All this could have happened at a fraction of a second - too fast for you to really notice any lapse in time.

This is a likely theory as well. Though I'm not sure how well we know that time is altered in dreams... laberge did a study in which he counted in a dream and signaled 10 second intervals through eye movement (which is recognized on a REM detector), and the times were close. But I very much doubt how encompassing these results are... and I'm not that close-minded that I think one episode of dream time is the same as all the others. For example... when you get passed out for about a second or two it feels like you've been sleeping for a while.

But yeah, there is not much research with that type of stuff so we cannot really say for sure what happened.
