Hey there and welcome to the forum!
The symptoms can include numbness, vibes, and sometimes not being able to move at all. Also, if you woke up a body part, and it starts stinging like crazy, you'll know that part was asleep!
And if you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

The tutorials are a great place to start. Just try looking some of them over and trying one out for a couple of days. I would recommend MILD, WBTB, and WILD, but you can just look around.

Anyway, if you have any questions, just let us know. As far as knowing when the body falls asleep, I haven't had any success withthat form of inducing lucidity, sorry. But I'll see you around.
