I'd like to add that with reality checks, it's not uncommon for them to become routine to the point where we just brush them off. There's a major tendency to do the check - be it plugging your nose or what not - and when it fails just being like, "Oh well." If you don't, I would strongly recommend taking a few more seconds and firmly telling yourself, "No, I'm not dreaming." Sometimes when you're in a dream you may do an RC and it will tell you that you're dreaming, but you may brush it off and lose your chance at being lucid.
Also, the fact that you could have been headed for a WILD is a sign of improvement. Take that as a step in the right direction! It's so easy to get frustrated, but stress can be very detrimental when trying to LD. So, take any improvements as a sign that you're one step closer to being lucid, whether that be any time you may question when you're dreaming or discussing lucidity with a dream character.
Just keep working it and remain positive. It took me three weeks before my first LD, but I can tell you that it will happen! Plan on having one tonight!
