      Newbie Question On Inducing

I have read through the site and I am still just a bit confused.

When I am dreaming I dont realize that It's even me in the dream. Some people have said that if something weird happens in their dreams they say to themselves " hey im dreaming " and they become lucid. My problem is I dont even realize that I am "me" during the dream sometimes. I know all of the people in my dreams and recognize my friends. I dont have control of what I do so I cant really stop to realize im dreaming. I feel emotion but dont really think for myself. I seem to be completely controlled by the dream itself. My perspective in which I see the dream changes sometimes also.

Is this what it is like for everyone? If so what should I do? I am begining to write down what I remember of my dreams too to see if it helps.

Im sorry if I overlooked something on the site that explained this already...

      Hey there and welcome.

You don't really need to worry, non-lucid dreams are pretty much like that for everyone as far as I know. It's something weird happening in the dream that you think of as impossible that triggers your consciousness, and which lets you have some control. Then, if you manage to realize you're dreaming, you can have essentially full control. It definitely is a good idea to have started writing down your dreams: Keeping a dream journal will help you get better dream recall, and then you can move on to trying to get LDs more actively (this doesn't mean you can't have any while you're working on your recall, though). You might also wanna start a habit of doing reality checks, so that you have a better chance of doing one in a dream and becoming lucid.

      Who are You?

      Welcome to the forum.

I'm not always myself in my dreams, in fact quite often I'm someone completly different doing something I would never imagine (while I'm awake) to do.

Now what you can try and do is to look for or be concious of (while your dreaming) is something that happens or is there that could not possible be real or from reality as we know it while we are awake. Once you identify something unreal, even if it is slight, and you ask yourself "could this be a dream?" try and do something you know you could never do in reality. If it works you'll know your in a dream.

A lot of times dreams can be so real that you'll doubt that it is a dream and except the slight unrealness who you are in them and what is going on.

I've learned to tell myself things while I falling asleep in order to have or at least start a dream in a way of my choosing. Its like starting a story in my head trying to see it with my sees closed. Focusing on every detail as I would if I was awake. Then the next thing I know is I'm asleep and dreaming the story as it unfolds. Staying aware that it is a dream while falling asleep was the next technicI learned. I learned that HERE.

Hey there, and welcome to the forum!!
It seems to me you could be in 3rd person. Maybe you should use this chance to Reality Check, and see if you are truely dreaming (3rd person is pretty easy to figure out!).
Not always, but some people do dream about being in 3rd person (myself included), especially if it is a WILD, it can start off this way, and this can actually sometimes prove to be an excellent RC.
And don't worry about it, that was an excellent question, and if you have any more of them, feel free to ask!

Everyone dreams differently. This is just your way. Keeping a dream journol is an excellent idea. If you want to be 'you' in your dreams, just concentrate on that while falling asleep. Perhaps you should write this down, so that your intent will be set. Really be confident in yoruself. If being a different person doesn't bother you, don't worry about it.
