      Hello

I'm new to this site and lucid dreaming.
I probably remember 1 dream every 2 weeks if not that.
However when I do have a dream I know when I'm dreaming but I'm not in control, I normaly gain control towards the end of my dream for about 1 minute before I wake up.
1 fustrating thing I do when dreaming is knowing I can do something which I want to and I'm not able and as soon as I accomplish it I wake up.

This site was mentioned to me by a friend who said I'd find it intresting so I've signed up on the forums and will be trying the tecniques that have been provided on the site because it will add another fun part to my life which I can do while sleeping.

I'm also worried though, when practicing dream recall I don't want to be remembering nightmares when I first start practicing and does lucid dreaming actually effect how much sleep you get at all because your having to concentrate while asleep?

Thanks for any replys and answers to my question

Hey there and welcome to the forum!!
If you want to increase your recall, I recommend keeping a DJ, because that will make your recall rocket!
And it sounds like you are a natural, which is really good, too, and dream control just takes a little more practice is all.
Don't worry about remembering nightmares, because if you know it is a dream, you should know they cannot hurt you. And the answer to that is no, it will not affect the amount of sleep you get. In fact, REM sleep is needed more than any other sleep.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Thanks for such a quick reply.
It's not normaly the itself nightmare that scares me, sometimes I slighty enjoy them because of the thrill. It's once I've woken up from 1 I get a bit worried, I think it's coming back to reality after something a bit scary, but I'm fine after 10 minutes.

Glad you got directed to the forum. Welcome aboard!

I have the same problem as you sometimes, if I'm only at a low level of lucidity, I get frustrated when I can't change something in the dream. It's aggrevating. As the dream progresses, I'm usually able to exert more control on the dream. I've found the tutorials very helpful and you learn a lot just by reading other member's posts.

If you haven't started a dream journal yet, that would be your first step in better recall. You may not want to remember your nightmares, but recording all the dreams you can remember will be beneficial in recognizing your dream signs and characters to help you gain lucidity.

Depending on how well you become lucid without doing anything other than DILD (Dream Initiated Lucid Dreaming), your sleep time may or may not change much. All of my lucid dreams are DILD or accidental WBTB (Wake Back To Bed) so I don't miss out on any sleep.

Anyway, if you have any questions, feel free to PM any Dream Guide. Good Luck!

      Oh, I see.
Try to relax a little when they come at you. Know it is only a dream, and they cannot do what you don't want them to, okay?

      Thanks for the advice .
It's one thing knowing it was only a dream, it's another thing not letting it get to you.

Yeah, there are some of them that once got to me, and can get to me if I am trying to WILD.
For example, the one I had this morning at about 6:02AM (which was very much a FA, and I did read the clock), I couldn't see myself in the mirror. That did not get to me....I just simply relaxed, and headed back to bed.
Sometimes, I might even make funny jokes about them, then they don't seem so scary....like doing the hockey pokey with your sash....or even racing each other around the world...it is that easy...just try to make jokes about them, and they do seem a lot funner!

Woo I started my journal last night and recalled 2 dreams on my first night, I used the alarm clock to wake me up, I only had about 2 hours sleep then went back to sleep to have another dream, both these weren'tt lucid at all though which they normaly are. My first one was me watching a replay of a fight I had in reality about 3 years ago, due to people looking for trouble and hurting innocent people (the dream luckily didn't bother me though that much) second one I was in football game playin for everton, I don't even support Everton.
I never thought dreams could be so intresting and that people thought about them in so much depth till I found out about this site and Lucid Dreaming.

Hey, Dreamy Pyro. It is wonderful to have you with us! Welcome. I hope that you find nothing but success in your dreaming endeavors. For better dream recall, why not use a dream journol? It really, really helps.
      Shine on, you crazy diamond!
