      G'Day All

      Hi All,

I'm Steve from Australia. The first thing I'd like to say is congratulations to all on an excellent site. I was googling the internet for dream control to find out more information on the subject and this site was pretty quickly found. I thought this is "simply perfect", just what I was looking for. Not often you can do that when searching for something. A dream outcome in itself.

I have been interested in LD as I now know it, for some years. I started experimenting with it after reading about astral travel. I never got to travel in that context , but I did learn that I could control my dreams in some small way, pretty much by accident. I actually found it a bit weird at first, but totally awesome as well.

I never really pursued it in any depth at the time, and my experience was that the harder I tried to make LD happen or start, it never would. It happened when I least expected which wasn't that often. But when it did and I could exert some control, it was very intense and vivid, but generally short because I'd awake or lose the connection somehow. That's the almost addictive part, wanting it to happen again hence why a recent short LD experience I had, triggered me to begin finding more about the subject.

After reading through just a little bit of the information on this site, I realise that there is a lot to learn and experience. It should be a fun journey.

      So thats me.

      Cheers,
      Steve

      Welcome to the forums heysteve!

I sounds as if you've had some interesting experiences already. What kind of control could you extert. Could you fly, or change things in the dream, etc?

I thought this was too good to be true when i first had an LD experience- then I found DV.

You should always keep in a posative frame of mind when doing the techinques. And as a general rule of thumb, if you think it's not going to work, it won't and visa-versa

      Hi Dudesuperior,

Just to expand further on my experiences and answer your questions
I've always had very vivid falling or flying dreams since I was young but was never in control. In fact I would have classed them as mild nightmares sometimes because I often awoke in fright. When I started reading about astral travel many years ago I thought I might be able to control those dreams and travel at will to any place I wanted in a sort of OBE. But it didn't work for me. But what I found after a while was that when I was experiencing a bad flying or falling dream, I was able to control myself, stop the panic before I awoke, and turn it around and enjoy it. It was probably a subconscious side affect of thinking about it because it just happened slowly over time. After a while I started to be able to navigate to varying degrees where I wanted whilst flying around . It was awesome. Then flying and falling dreams became a very enjoyable experience when they occured. But there is always that very initial period of slight worry before recognition and trying to exert control. Also I was never able to induce flying dreams to occur. They just happened when they did. What I found hard was maintaining control for a long time. On the odd ocassions I did, and that was a lot of fun. Also what I found was that I could only go to places I had been to before. Every time I wanted to go somewhere where I hadn't been I would almost get there but then the dream would take over and I would lose the control and it would just become another hazy dream. However an observation of mine is that the panicy or scary part of falling never returns once the initial control is exerted even if it is lost afterwards.

With respect to changing things I can sort of can change scary dreams or nightmares into something less panicy but I don't actually change it to anything I want. I recognise that something is not really a danger then the scene changes to a random less threatening thing whatever that may be. I am very aware I forced it to change but can't control where it goes. However in plain old normal dreams I have had some success in making things happen how I want but only for very short periods. Often when I'm thinking about girlfriends

I would like to be able to get to a stage where I could change the scene or context of dream at will.

All in all a very fascinating subject I hope to explore in depth

      Cheers,
      Steve

Hey Steve (I love that name) And I like your avatar, too.

I'm glad you like the site, and I hope you can use all the available info to progress your dreaming ventures. Sounds like you're well on your way to doing great things!

I also love flying dreams. I fly as much as I possibly can - plus it's a great dreamsign to induce lucidity since you can't fly in real life.

Anyway, enjoy your stay. And you may find the Beyond Dreaming forum interesting.

      Anyway, Good Luck!

      Thanks Burns

I need to do some more practice on control I think before I get my wings. Also I would love to be able to start at will without having a random dream about falling or flying first.

Actually had a very restless, dreamy night last night, probably because dreaming was very much on my mind during the previous day due to this site. But none were lucid until early in the morning when I semi awoke then went back to sleep with some awareness of what I was going to do. Anyway I started dreaming (not flying unfortunately) and I thought I would try something I read on this site about a method of changing scenes by turning yourself around and suggesting a new scene. Hey Presto it actually worked. Got so excited I woke up. But I went back to sleep and the same thing happened, but this time I didn't wake up and was able to change scenes several times. Wow. Unfortuately I found progression into the scene was quite difficult and it would die out. But every time that happened I would spin around and change again. It was sort of like playing a video game where I could control the scenes. Every time I spun around, what I suggested was there. Astounded me. I suppose it just takes a lot of research and practice plus research help from the experts on this site to progress further.
I probably need to start a journal as well.

btw the avatar is one of a few pics taken during a rare winter hail storm we had here in Brisbane. I didn't take the shot unfortunately, but the shows nature puts on are unbeatable... except maybe what we dream about.

      Cheers
      Steve

I'm impressed with the dream control you have already! Keep up the good work!

And, yes, a dream journal is pretty much an essential part of improving dream recall and LDs. You should start one ASAP.

I love thunderstorms and your avatar is a great picture. It's neat it was taken of the city where you live.

Cool, you have a lot of control already!

And as Burns says, a Dream Journal is a useful tool to LD- it helps to identify dream signs as well as imporving your recall.

And thanks to your avatar, I have that bloody song- 'I love a rainy night' stuck in my head again! It's a great pic
