      First Post, Hi Everyone

I came across this site through a strange twist of events. I was randomly researching a condition where people actually act out their dreams in their sleep, when in a chain of wikipedia articles I found this website .

I must say, alot of these posts made me a bit skeptic. That is probably cause the first posts I read here were all the "flying" ones and stuff. However, after reading several journals and such I decided I would give this a try!

2 nights ago as I was going to sleep, I kept thinking in my mind "I am going to remember this dream". I don't know how long I did this and I didn't think anything was going to happen. However, after some time I started feeling...twitches in my legs and shoulders. I was pretty scared at this point, and I couldn't stop it! Soon images appeared in the blackness of my closed eyelids...only way I can really describe are like "explosions" of light particles.

No, I never got to the point of dreaming. In fact, I must of massively wussed out. Those images and twitches were really scaring me and I couldn't get to sleep for the rest of the night. I just dwelled on what might of happened and if it would have been good or bad. I have a very active imagination and sometimes seemingly have "lucid" day dreams. I have direct control over everything, cept it is morel ike a storyboard rather than me directly controlling what is going on.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to say hi and share my inital doubts and experience.

It is strange, during the day I'll read this board and just think "I gotta do this!". Yet, when I lay in my bed and turn off the lights, I remember how I felt that one night and I just can't make myself go through that again. I'll probably take a break but I'll be floating around these boards .

THESE BOARDS ARE COOL, YOU ARE ALL AWESOME!!
      I never made a scene..
      They came to me....

Hey there and welcome to the forum!

Just so you know, when you learn to Lucid Dream, you can do anything you desire, and even in some special ones, you could even read an open book!
The twitches and the images are part of a WILD. If you have them again, maybe you should try to fade into a dream, and think to yourself, "I am dreaming now!"
But if you really want to learn to Lucid Dream, first off, know that they aren't about controlling dreams, but rather becoming aware that you are dreaming inside the dream. You might want to also check out the tutorials, and start a Dream Journal as well!
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

      Welcome to the forum, Furizen!

Don't get freaked out already! You were probably experiencing hypnagogic imagery and a few twitches that may go along with a WILD, like nesgirl said. Just keep trying, and try new techniques as well.

Thanks for introducing yourself - I'm sure you'll really like the community here.

      Welcome, yo.
I found it interesting that you became sceptical because of the posts that talked about flying and whatnot...
I assure you, it's not only possible, but fun, and addictive. lol
There is nothing supernatural, or strange about lucid dreams.
It's simply taking control of your dreams.
Your dreams are controlled by your brain, and your brain is controlled by you. A=B=C Therefore A=C. You have controll over your dreams. You just have to learn how to realize this.
Anyway... Welcome to the forum. Give it a try.

Don't get scared off. The fact that you had hypnagogic images, with the flashes of light and whatnot, shows that you are very ready to explore.
There is nothing like it in the world... to walk around in a dream, and be completely awake. Amazing.

Once you've had a true, full lucid, vivid dream, you will never forget it, and you'll never go back.

Edit: Wait. Lucid dreams aren't simply taking control over your dreams. What am I saying? Wow. I must have been tired when i wrote this. Sorry guys.

Thanks for the replies and the welcomes. The community seems very pleasant, maybe because you all sleep so well LOL

It was just a strange feeling, and not being able to stop it at will was pretty frightening.

I've been reading up on some of the techniques so I think I will take a "lighter" approach to this.

Welcome to the forum. It looks like you have some natural skill in inducing WILDs to say the least. To be scared of hypnagogic imagery the first time you see it is not surprising, especially if you don't know about its nature yet.
Of course, there's nothing to worry about and seeing HI only means you're on your way to a lucid dream, but if you find it hard to convince yourself of that fact, you might want to try focusing on DILDs first. This might be what you meant by taking a ligther approach, but I thought I'd mention it anyway .
      A dream
is a reality that others cannot see.
      Reality
is a dream you share with others.

I remembered my dream last night really really clearly. It was a dream I had after waking up in the middle of the night. I typed it on my computer as I remembered. Since I can type with my eyes closed (I can't write with my eyes closed), I could actually visualize my dream as I typed.

Strangely, when I read over it the next morning, I couldn't visualize it at all. It was like all the visual memory I had of the dream was gone. Good thing I had it typed out when I actually woke up from the dream and remembered about the dream journals.

      Copied directly from Notepad

5/25 before 4:30 AM (the time I woke up) *
I was driving the down a road that looked similar to one I drive down everyday on my to school. A friend of mine was sitting on the passenger seat. Anyways, when we got to a stop light, there were a lot of cars lined up. *Suddenly, they all turned off the road into the grass. *I thought they were letting us through but then I looked behind and saw it was a police car. *I was wondering why everyone was moving for the police car but I just kept driving forward between all the cars that went offroad to the stop light which had turned green. *I look behind me again and the police car had its lights on. *I see that he is after me so I quickly turn off road and don't signal or anything. *My friend said, "I guess wait here". *I didn't know what he meant. *I saw the police car ride by and struggling to get off the road, like there was a barrier on the side of the road or something. *Eventually it did. *2 people stepped out of the car, they didn't have police uniforms on. *I get out of the car. My friend had suddenly disappeared for some reason. *I wave to the "cops" down there, and it looks like they wave back but are motioning me to walk down to them. *I walked all the way down to the 2 "cops", the distance seemed alot longer then it should of been. *Like I was walking in slow motion or something. *I remember that as I reached them, they trotted towards me. *One of them looked kinda creepy and just said, "I need to see it" *I was really confused as I thought most cops asked for some kind of ID. *[Oh yeah, I remember that as I was walking down to the car I pulled out my wallet from my back pocket. *I guess to have my license ready.] I didn't say anything, and the faces of the cops changed strangely. *Suddenly a deep fear grew inside of me, I didn't know what was going on. *Then, for some reason, I said "You guys are the murderers from the news!" *As I said it, one of them reached out to grab me! *At that point, *I woke up.... *[/b]
I really don't know where my "murderers from the news!" comment came from. I wasn't really doubting anything that was happening until that point. Maybe I was becoming more aware of my dream, but I didn't directly realize that all this was a dream. Just that something was wrong and it must be stopped.

It's awesome that you could remember that much. Going through a dream in your head like that makes your mind more in tune with how you felt when you were dreaming. It starts to build the bridge between the two states of consciousness, and I think that's really what it's all about. You have to carry thoughts and ideas over from the waking world to the dreamscape.

With that kind of recall, and devotion, you'll be a mater lucid dreamer in no time. I forsee this.

Ok, so it seems I am more of a natural at this than I thought. Dream recall has never really been a problem for me at all. Even before coming to this website. I never actually wrote them down until now, but it seems that these dreams that I have written down are retained in my memory. Much more than any past dream.

My dream last night is too weird for me to type out here. Not weird as in freaky, but just really random. The summary is that I was grilling steaks with a very old friend of mine, and I seemed to be the age that I was when I actually used to talk to this person. Which was about 12 years old. What the weird thing is that I can remember thinking how strange all of this was. As I have never grilled steaks in my life lol(currently 17 years old). It seemed I analyzed the dream in every way except for analyzing that this infact IS a dream! Also, just to note that all dreams that I can remember are the ones that I get after waking up early in the morning and dozing off again. It seems that the only hurdle I really need to pass is implementing reality tests and dreamsigns. Yet, except for the fact that me interacting with this friend was strange, the dream seemed perfectly normal in terms of physics and speech.

As soon as I woke up, I was pretty angry at myself for not knowing it was a dream. Yet satisfied that the dream was as vivid as it was. Even if it was totally random .

So in summary, my next goal is to implement reality tests in reality in order to remember to do them in my dreams. No dreamsigns have really popped out yet, but I suppose I haven't recorded enough yet.

Yep -- that's why journaling is so important. No matter how good your recall is, it can be enhanced by the simple act of writing down your dreams.

This is known as WBTB or "Wake -- Back To Bed". This has been the method that has worked best for me to induce lucidity. See this link for more information on this method.

      Hey, !!!

Heh... you seem to have really good recall already, looking over your dreams... you should start a "Dream Journal" thread in the "Dream Journal" sub-forum... it;s a really unique and useful function of the forum, you should check it out sometime...

I agree with sloth, WBTB is extremely effective. I usually use it to aid my WILD attempts, or else to improve my dream recall...

Yuor account of your experiences in your first post of this thread is really exciting... I've had a couple of successful WILDs myself, and lots of Hypnogogic Imagery on various occaisdions, so, I know how exciting those kinds of expereiences can be... the advice can offer is to keep doing what it is you're doing, so you get used to the experiences,a dn not so excited... that way, it'll be easier to have a Lucid Dream... you won't go getting too excited to fall asleep.

Anyway, welcome, and hope you enjoy the forums!
