      New user - late introduction

Hi! I've been a member for awhile now, but have yet to port my introduction, so here goes...

My name is Brian, I am 29 years old, from Indianapolis, IN. I have been interested in lucid dreaming for a very long time, but never have managed to be lucid on a regular basis or to have very much control over a dream once I become lucid. My method varies, but normally I try to do as many RCs in a day as I can fit in along with some MILD when going to sleep - though as stated this combo is not having a success rate I would brag about. I have also tried WBTB -> WILD a few time, but have had no success at all with that combo (with the exception of 1 instance where I was able to successfully WILD into a lucid dream and have some control, but that was before I even knew about WILD.

I have also been trying to supplement my efforts with 100 mg of vitamin B6 (I use a B-Complex so I get all B vitamins), but have only been trying this for a few nights and cannot really say whether or not it has had an effect.

I think part of my initial barrier to LDing when I started was that it seemed to be a fringe community and I couldn't find a lot of information on it or people that had successfully used the techniques that I was able to read about. A lot seems to have changed since my earlier days because I am now able to find whole communities of people that are LDing regularly - hopefully this will register in my SC and allow me to truly believe that LD is easy to do and I will be able to become a true Oneironaut (spelling?)!

      Hey Brian, welcome to DV!

The tutorials has info on loads of different induction methods. Also, check out the adoption program, it is avaliable after you have been a member for over two weeks.

      Good luck lucid dreaming!

I am glad that you found us. I developed my methods and my ability YEARS ago, and only realized that there were communities for it about a year ago. I partly wish I had known about them earlier... but developing my ability to lucid dream was fun, because I had no name for it, and I thought I was inventing something new... Not that I was the only person that could do it. I just didn't know anybody else that could.
Anyway.. I wish I could personally help you, but I'm at my adoptee quota, and you sound like you've probably tried all of the basic methods.

Tell me... How much time do you devote to lucid dreaming, when you try it. How much sleep do you have, total, that night?

welcome ...this forum was instrumental in helping me learn to lucid dream after years of effort, in conjunction with stephen LaBerge's "exploring the world of lucid dreaming".

      happy journeys..

Welcome to the forum! It's nice to hear you've already tried various induction techniques and have had LDs regularly. You should have a lot of great information and experiences to being to the forum. I think you'll really enjoy this community - you'll be glad you found it! Good luck and have fun!

      I have good news already!

Thanks to a combination of WBTB + an mp3 I found in a thread on this site* + WILD I was able to have the most lucid dream to date in my ongoing quest. It began as auditory hallucinations of a friend's voice talking to me. This slowly phased into a dream where I was getting into a car with a friend of mine. We were leaving a bar and he was searching for a CD as we drove off. Driving felt VERY odd to me and I even ran a red light because driving just did not feel right at all - it felt like I was lying down in the backseat driving, everything seemed very far away. While driving, I noticed the lights on the car in front of us start to behave oddly and this triggers lucidity. I float away from the car and actually at this point begin to see Hynagogic Imagery - geometric patterns, I even thought one pattern resembled Leonardo DaVinci's Vitruvian Man and it morphed into it! I float some more and see a wall, I think to myself "I will float through it" and sure enough I do. I look up and I am in a bed in not my room, starting up at an inclined wall - which is still balzing with the patterns, etc associated with HI. The patterns solidify and I remember my intent (a small goal I made for myself for my next LD - basically to just do a RC, try to stabilize the dream, then get up and explore a little) so I check my hands...I must have had like 8 fingers on each hand, all were short, disfigured and appeared to be almost dancing. I just smile at this because it is exactly what I had expected I would see when I checked my hands. I then rub my hands together a little and try to say "Increase Lucidity Now!" but the words come out all garbled, almost like a sock was stuck in mouth. At this point I phased back in to wakefulness.

The odd thing about this dream is how the hynagogic imagery came AFTER I started dreaming. I suppose, however, that this could just have been a carry over from my efforts at WILD, because during that I did not see any HI - perhaps when I became lucid I decided in my subconcious that some HI was in order. Either way, this was a fantastic experience (though short) because I was able to think more clearly in a dream than I ever have before. I am positive with repeat practice using same techniques that I will get over the excitement (probably why I woke up soon after becoming totally lucid) and be able to more deeply explore my dream environment and eventually begin controlling my dreams!
