I have good news already!
Thanks to a combination of WBTB + an mp3 I found in a thread on this site* + WILD I was able to have the most lucid dream to date in my ongoing quest. It began as auditory hallucinations of a friend's voice talking to me. This slowly phased into a dream where I was getting into a car with a friend of mine. We were leaving a bar and he was searching for a CD as we drove off. Driving felt VERY odd to me and I even ran a red light because driving just did not feel right at all - it felt like I was lying down in the backseat driving, everything seemed very far away. While driving, I noticed the lights on the car in front of us start to behave oddly and this triggers lucidity. I float away from the car and actually at this point begin to see Hynagogic Imagery - geometric patterns, I even thought one pattern resembled Leonardo DaVinci's Vitruvian Man and it morphed into it! I float some more and see a wall, I think to myself "I will float through it" and sure enough I do. I look up and I am in a bed in not my room, starting up at an inclined wall - which is still balzing with the patterns, etc associated with HI. The patterns solidify and I remember my intent (a small goal I made for myself for my next LD - basically to just do a RC, try to stabilize the dream, then get up and explore a little) so I check my hands...I must have had like 8 fingers on each hand, all were short, disfigured and appeared to be almost dancing. I just smile at this because it is exactly what I had expected I would see when I checked my hands. I then rub my hands together a little and try to say "Increase Lucidity Now!" but the words come out all garbled, almost like a sock was stuck in mouth. At this point I phased back in to wakefulness.
The odd thing about this dream is how the hynagogic imagery came AFTER I started dreaming. I suppose, however, that this could just have been a carry over from my efforts at WILD, because during that I did not see any HI - perhaps when I became lucid I decided in my subconcious that some HI was in order. Either way, this was a fantastic experience (though short) because I was able to think more clearly in a dream than I ever have before. I am positive with repeat practice using same techniques that I will get over the excitement (probably why I woke up soon after becoming totally lucid) and be able to more deeply explore my dream environment and eventually begin controlling my dreams!
