      Hello, I'm new here.

      Hey all, I'm Felix.
A few days ago, I clicked on a link and ended up here. I was fascinated by the idea of controlling my dreams, so I decided to try to learn this ability for myself.

Well, I've been performing reality checks every time I think about doing them. I seem to do them fairly often, usually twice an hour. I'll look at my clock, look away, then look back to see if it changed. I wasn't sure at first if my clock would work, as it's numbers and not words, but apparently it did as you'll find out below. I also pinch my nose and try to breathe.

My first attempt was the night before last. I went to sleep without a dream journal the first night, as I figured I'd get one the next day. However, I still tried having a lucid dream, and failed horribly (or maybe I succeeded and I just don't remember).

Well, before bed last night I did some more research on the subject, I studied and reviewed everything I could about lucid dreams, how I could tell I was having one, and how to keep having one. I was scared I would realize I was dreaming and wake up, or I would realize I was dreaming then forget I was and continue with the dream like a lot of other people do.

When I finally went to bed last night, I tried again, this time with a dream journal. I told myself over and over that I would wake up after my dream and remember it. I woke up about halfway through my normal sleep hours and couldn't remember that I was supposed to be writing in my journal at that moment. It wasn't until I turned onto my side and saw the journal there that I realized what I had done. Unfortunately, by that time I had already forgotten the majority of the dream. I still wrote down what I could remember though.

I went back to sleep, again repeating to myself that I would remember my dream and wake up from it. Well, I believe this was my first lucid dream. I had been laying in bed and every once in a while glancing at my clock and seeing if it changed when I looked back again, in case that in my dream I would still be laying in bed expecting to fall asleep. This proved to be effective. You can read about my lucid dream here.

I feel I was incredibly lucky to achieve a LD after just starting. I was and am really excited about this, I can't wait to try again tonight.

Well, now that you know about me and my little adventure, do any of you have any tips for me? They would be greatly appreciated. 8)

Hi! Welcome to the forum! I have had a couple of lucid dreams in the past accidentally. I'm still trying different methods. As for tips, I guess I don't have any, as I'm not that experianced yet. Well, I hope you enjoy it here!

Well done on the LD! And welcome to the forum, by the way.

Great job writing everything down in your journal, even though you couldn't remember the full dream. Just getting something down on paper will train your mind to remember more dreams so you can record them.

I also love the clock reality check. It's gotten me lucid so many times. I do it a little different, though, I compare a wall clock to my wristwatch. The times never match in my dreams so I become lucid instantly. But this is a good example of tweaking something so it works for you, which is what you've done. Keep up the good work!

Reading about LDing before bed is a great idea. Helps to get you in the "lucid frame of mind" so to speak. Since you like reading, I'd highly recommend picking up a copy of Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge. It's pretty much the bible of LDing - and is widely referred to on all LDing forums. A must-read for anyone interested in LDing.

So all in all, I'd say you're doing all the right things. Find something that works for you and go with it.

Thanks for the quick welcome and reply. I still can't believe my luck.
I'll continue to improve my dream recall and find out my dream signs.

I'm a bit nervous about attempting a WILD or anything like it, from what other people describe when they're doing it, it can be rather frightening. I am a coward, so I'm hesitant to put myself willingly into a position where something creepy might happen. At the same time, the experience seems really cool and interesting, and I want to try to get it to work at least once. I guess after I practice dream recall a bit more, I'll attempt a WILD.

I gotta thank you guys, this site is so awesome. I probably would have never learned about this amazing skill if I hadn't stumbled upon this place. I love you guys.

Never hurts to try, right? Personally, I've never ever successfully WILDed. It's just not my thing. But I can LD without it, so I'm not fussed. It would be a cool experience, though!
