      Hello!

      Hello everyone!
My name is Erin, I am 17 years old and live in Victoria, Australia.
A friend directed me to this site when I was giggling over a dream I had had the previous night, in which I decided that since I was dreaming about my guinea pigs, she would have had babies when I woke up.
I'll just explain a bit about my lucid dream history here, and I would love to hear any comments from you.
I love recalling my dreams. I think it's the most fun part about waking up, and rarely a night goes by where I don't remember at least one of the dreams I had the night before. I slept for about 7 hours last night, and I can recall three of my dreams.
I don't have a dream journal, but sometimes all I need is a couple of words written down (such as dog with snake for tail) to remember the entire dream.
It seems strange since in real life, I have a terrible memory.
I'll just copy and paste a very excerpts from my blog here, to describe my lucid dream history...
First of all, I was reading the site and I was in the section about dream signs, and I was surprised; I seem to have two dream signs, is this normal? When I was younger, I would have terrible nightmares that I was being chased by monsters. Very original. I would try to run, but I could hardly move faster than a slow walk. I would fall to the ground and try to scream, but I could only make a noise like someone breathing out loudly... You know how you breathe into your hand to check if you have bad breath? Well, that would be the extent of the noise I could make. I would get more and more terrified, and would only wake up when I died in my dreams.
I learnt from this, so when I would have a scary dream, I would leap off a tall building or out a window, or cut off my own head, knowing that if I died, I would wake up. I used this method until about a year ago, when I became aware I could wake myself up at will. If I was terrified of something that was happening, or worried I was going to oversleep, I could close my eyes (in my dream) tightly, then wrench them open and try to open them wider and wider, until I could feel my eyes start to move, and the dream would fade a little. Then I would just close my eyes tight once more and wrench them open again, and I would be awake. I could (and still can) do this several times a night. I can wake up three or four times, and I can go back to sleep almost instantly, and I never recall the same nightmare again that night, usually not ever again, full stop.
Very few people believe me when I tell them that, but I figure I know it's true. Then, when I found this website, I was ecstatic. Reading through it, I kept thinking it was like someone had listened to my whole story about my dreaming abilites, and written it all down!
I don't always have lucid dreams, but I can usually remember what I have seen, sometimes the colours of things, or what has been said. Most of the time, my lucid dreams involve being chased or attacked, but just the other night I dreamt I was riding a horse, I wanted to gallop but I could tell I was about to wake up so I thought "Better make it quick!" The horse did a lap of the paddock and I woke up fuming that the ride had to end so soon
I dream about normal life scenarios. Some of the things I have dreamt about were: Riding horses, being chased (more times than I can count), being able to run super fast, fly, or breathe underwater. I also dream about really normal things like brushing my hair, stoking the fire, getting a letter, closing doors, eating food, taking a shower etc.
I can control what things will happen. I can sit in an empty room and call out celebrity's names and they will appear. I can make people do backflips and roll around on the floor, turn knives into bubble wrap or bananas, make guns shoot streamers instead of bullets, make pursuers' feet suddenly get stuck in blocks of concrete, turn dinosaurs or big scary dogs into guinea pigs or mice. Sometimes, I can even feel things in my dreams.
Once, when I was about 13 years old and 'never been kissed' as the saying goes, I dreamt about a guy and I thought "Right, I have to kiss him now or I won't know what it feels like." I knew I was too nervous to kiss anyone in real life, so I figured I would get a little experience in my dreams first! So I ran after this guy and kissed him, and actually it was quite surprising, I could feel it! So when I had my first real kiss two years later, I was shocked to realise that it actually did feel like that! It was at this point I realised that in my dreams, I could do all sorts of things before I actually did them in real life, and my dreams never let me down. The way things felt were always true to life, and I loved it!
Once I had a dream I was on a train, and every time we passed the station, I would get a new Scratch 'n' Sniff sticker. So I sped up the train and collected all the stickers, scratched and sniffed them all, then decided I was finished and woke myself up.
Ok, I think I might be ranting a bit, I would love to get to know people on here so please reply, I would love to know if anyone has had the same sort of experiences as me!
How do I know if this is really happening? For all I know, I'm asleep and typing on my pillow!

      Re: Hello!

Wow! Nice introduction! I'm very impressed with your dreaming experience. Sounds like you're a pro at control already. I'm really glad you found the forum - I can tell that you're going to love it here, and I'm looking forward to reading more of your experiences.

That's really good recall. Is there any particular method you use to help you recall so many dreams per night? A lot of people have trouble recalling dreams, so I wondered if you have any special technique, or if you simply wake up and remember them?

First homework assignment - start a dream journal!! What's the use of recalling your dreams if you don't write them down? Chances are you'll have forgotten them by midday if you aren't recording them. Keeping a DJ will help you recognize more patterns to your dreams. So even if you have no problem becoming lucid, keeping a DJ is a good idea. I'm always blown away when I go back and read my DJ, even from a few months ago (I've been keeping one since 2003), because until I re-read the dream, I'd forgotten all about it! But when I read it, the whole dream comes flooding back in detail. It's really neat.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I have about 10 common dreamsigns. Dreamsigns are different for everybody. All it is are things you commonly dream about. For me, a very common dreamsign is not being able to dial a phone properly, or not being able to get through to anyone on the phone. Also, my old high school is a common dreamsign of mine. Also, flying, as well. So they'll be different for everyone. This is another reason to keep a DJ, because you'll recognize more of your common dreamsigns.

Most people start out LDing this way. I've read about so many people having nightmares as a child, so they would become lucid and wake themselves up to escape the nightmare. Very common.

I'm so excited that you found the site! I know how you feel, because I felt the same way when I discovered DV. It's not like other forums - the members here are very helpful and friendly. And there is so much information available for your use.

Wow, that's really good control! Are you always lucid when you are controlling these dreams? I ask because being lucid and having control aren't dependent on each other. You can be lucid and have no control, or you can have control and not be lucid.

I think a lot of people want to learn how to LD so they can do this - practicing a skill or something during a LD. Maybe you can help people learn how to do this.

Anyway, sorry for the long reply! I really enjoyed reading your post and wanted to answer all your questions.

Please feel free to post any other questions or experiences you may have. Good luck and have fun!

I totally agree, I am the same as rarely a night goes by that I don't remember at least something. Waking up and remember what I dreamed definetely is one of my favorite reasons to go to sleep. However:

Dream Journal is definetly a good thing. However thus far I haven't really remember more dreams because of it. (note that I only have been doing it for 5 days ) I will continue to do it however for two reasons.
#1 I find as I am writing down what I do remember, I often remember whole massive parts I didn't recall before I started writing. It forces the mind to play over it again and new things are discovered, just as when you watch a movie the second time you notice new things.
#2 Yes it will be most helpful in realizing patterns and such.
Not to mention longevity of memories. I remember experiences almost indefinetly even in dreams, but I find, as Burns stated, even after only 5 days I cannot willfully play back my dreams in my head as vividly as they were when they occured. Upon reading it it is almost like I am there again, definatly worthwhile. And believe me, I HATE writing. Writing by hand is a pain for me because I have the beginnings of carpal tunnel, probably due to my incessant computer use. Typing doesn't bother me but handwriting is a PAIN in the butt. I thought about making a DJ on my PC but I imagine that doing it that way would wake me up too much to remember. So write I will.
Anyway from what little I know (I R NOOB =P) it sounds like you have a lot of natural ability. I have had lucid dreams before w/o inducing it (well only 2). This site is great. I read literally 100s of pages written on the subject in two days before deciding I would make this my home.

Anyhow, as for you making a rant, all my posts are long, maybe it's cause I have a lot to say, or maybe it's cause I like to talk either way...
