      Hi,

surfing the internet looking for something like this forum...
in the last 2 years i've become very interested in dreams. In the years before i had a few dreams which i still remember, but never gave them any special attention. Simply because i didn't know back then that dreams could have hidden meanings...untill i had some strange experiences, which i now know could be named sleeping paralysis. A few months after those experiences (which had scared me a lot) it was like a little snowball began moving down a large hill, growing bigger and bigger...

Through people and things around me i started to feel like i had entered some kind of story...just out of curiosity i once tried to meditate and after this meditation i fell asleep...having the first real clear dream (kind of lucid one)...from there my interest in dreams had it's kick-off...

I wanted to know what this dream meant to me, because i knew this couldn't be just-one-of-those-dreams. In this dream there were 3 times that i suddenly couldn't see anymore...thought i was going blind. I tried blinking my eyelids and every time my sight came back. In this dream i first sat down next to a baby...when standing up my sight dissapeared. Then, able to see again, i found myself standing in front of a mirror...again my sight dissapeared...after blinking and getting my sight back i wanted to look at myself in the mirror...but i didn't see my face...the only thing i saw was 1 eye, with a pink iris in it. After this my sight dissapeared for the third time...when it came back i found myself standing in front of 2 glass doors...this is where the dream ended...
Some people told me that those two glass doors could mean that i was going to remember. This didn't make any sense to me back then, but while time passed by i dreamed and learned more and more. I suddenly could remember lots and lots of dreams...

It looks like there's some sort of a pattern in my dreaming. From time to time there are a few weeks in which it feels like i'm not dreaming at all. Then, out of the blue, strange/great dreams are remembered...after these big dreams ordinary dreams follow. It's like everytime those big dreams show up there's something new i have to learn and that the ordinary dreams show in which way i could/would handle that new something...after the ordinary ones the dreamless time follows...

Well, a long story...to be short: i'm really interested in dreams and believe that they can learn us a lot...

      Hey Snowflake!

First off, welcome to the forum! I arrived only a few days before you but I feel like I can welcome you here ^^

Now about what you wrote, I can imagine your increasing interest in dreams though I don't know what feeling sleep paralysis is like, it must be pretty weird o_O

I have a few questions for you!

Why do you want to know what dreams mean? Are you trying to find out more about yourself and if so, what is it that you don't understand and what do you expect? Or is it just general curiosity?

Have you thought about the possibility that the 'blinking moments' as you described them are actually moments where you wake up? I have had 5 dreams in a row in one night, all connected in terms of story and all with a brief period of awakeness inbetween them. I don't know if you know about the different stages of sleep and REM sleep, but they might shed some light on this

As for the two glass doors. If there was no story or context around them, I'd be very cautious in trying to figure out what they can mean... Else you might turn into one of those superstitious ppl who believe whatever they want to believe ^^ Two glass doors can mean anything right? and I mean ANYTHING... Also, I'm pretty convinced that you are without a doubt the one person who is capable of figuring out what your dreams mean. You might get help from an expert, but ONLY through talking and helping you think about your dreams. Ultimately, it will be you who unlocks what the dream may mean... If someone, without knowledge of dream context, says that the 2 glass doors mean XY, I think chances are low he/she's right.... Do you agree?

About the periods of non-dreaming you describe. You really dó dream in these periods, only you can't remember them. This can have various causes, almost all of which are emotional or stress-related, but you probably know this One thing you can do is keep a dream journal in which you record all of your dreams (or as many as you can/want). This way, you'll train your dream-recall and you'll remember more dreams. If you're looking for hidden meanings, this little training sounds like just the thing I have a very nice book for you to read. It has information on almost every subject we've touched here. I have it as an e-book and if you want, we can exchange e-mail addresses and I can send it to you

So that was about it ^^ One thing though, try not to search for hidden meanings too hard or you'll end up making all sorts of weird connections and stuff... which aren't really well-founded just like some guy is convinced the whole world revolves around the number 3 and finds it everywhere he looks...

      So welcome and have fun

      Hi Nightbreeze,

First off, welcome to the forum! I arrived only a few days before you but I feel like I can welcome you here ^^
      Thanks!!

Now about what you wrote, I can imagine your increasing interest in dreams though I don't know what feeling sleep paralysis is like, it must be pretty weird o_O

When experiencing it for the first few times and never having heard of it, it really is weird, but most of all very scary...imagine yourself waking up and not being able to move at all...trying to scream but finding that you can't make any noise at all...Sometimes i experience this feeling again, but after having read about it i now know that it's just something natural...it's just waking up (the mind), while the body is still asleep..Now i'm able to relax during those paralysis and can wake myself up or enter a dream...

I have a few questions for you!

Why do you want to know what dreams mean? Are you trying to find out more about yourself and if so, what is it that you don't understand and what do you expect? Or is it just general curiosity?

At first: yes, i want to know more about myself and the world around me. It all started in a period in which i was asking myself a lot of questions about myself...questions like:...who am i and where am i standing and where am i heading...
I started to look for dreamsymbols-dictionaries, but found so much that i didn't know where to begin. Later i found out that those dictionaries could be of little help, but that i am the only one who really knows what my dreams maybe could be telling me.

Have you thought about the possibility that the 'blinking moments' as you described them are actually moments where you wake up? I don't know if you know about the different stages of sleep and REM sleep, but they might shed some light on this

No, i haven't thought about that possibility...maybe they really were brief moments of waking up. I had that dream during daytime, so i think REM-sleep would be the stage i was in...

As for the two glass doors. If there was no story or context around them, I'd be very cautious in trying to figure out what they can mean...

Why being very cautious? Why being cautious in trying to find a meaning to dreams at all? Without trying to give a dream a meaning...where does that leave the dream?...why are we able to remember our dreams then?

Else you might turn into one of those superstitious ppl who believe whatever they want to believe ^^

I always have been a sober thinking person...to sober maybe...and turned into a less sober one...
Superstitious people who believe whatever they want to believe...isn't that what everybody does? Believe in what they believe? Does superstition have anything to do with this?
I won't call myself superstitious, but yes (and think that is what you mean) i think that there is more around us which we can't see with the naked eye...But that doesn't make me superstitious...i'm still the same person i always was...but just a little more conscious of what i do and think then i was earlier.

Two glass doors can mean anything right? and I mean ANYTHING... Also, I'm pretty convinced that you are without a doubt the one person who is capable of figuring out what your dreams mean. You might get help from an expert, but ONLY through talking and helping you think about your dreams. Ultimately, it will be you who unlocks what the dream may mean...

      Yep..

If someone, without knowledge of dream context, says that the 2 glass doors mean XY, I think chances are low he/she's right.... Do you agree?

      Yep..

About the periods of non-dreaming you describe. You really dó dream in these periods, only you can't remember them. This can have various causes, almost all of which are emotional or stress-related, but you probably know this

      Yep again..

One thing you can do is keep a dream journal in which you record all of your dreams (or as many as you can/want).

I allready am keeping a dream journal... During the time i can recall my dreams, there are most of the time 1 to 3 dreams in a night remembered...this can continu for weeks and weeks...so i think the recalling is oke..

So that was about it ^^ One thing though, try not to search for hidden meanings too hard or you'll end up making all sorts of weird connections and stuff...

I know...sometimes it can make me really go crazy..but then again...i like to think and think and think and dive deep in it...mostly after some time another piece of the puzzle falls in place...
The thinker...that's just me...i have never been a person for just believing in theories...i always want to look behind them and then pick things out of them which could be of use for me...not easily convinced...

which aren't really well-founded just like some guy is convinced the whole world revolves around the number 3 and finds it everywhere he looks...

      So welcome and have fun

      Thanks again!

      Hey ^^

I kind of liked the way you adressed every part of my post seperetaly so I'm gonna go steal that little technique of you

      Thanks!![/b]
      no problem : D

When experiencing it for the first few times and never having heard of it, it really is weird, but most of all very scary...imagine yourself waking up and not being able to move at all...trying to scream but finding that you can't make any noise at all...Sometimes i experience this feeling again, but after having read about it i now know that it's just something natural...it's just waking up (the mind), while the body is still asleep..Now i'm able to relax during those paralysis and can wake myself up or enter a dream...[/b]
I can imagine... I've read about it, but it must still be pretty damn terrifying ^^

hmm, I've never had a period like that.. Normally, I'm kind of comfortable with myself and can easily find out the things I want.. Though I wouldn't know what to answer to a question like 'who am I'. what kind of answer does this give?
Yeah I'd look in my dreams as well. I wouldn't expect too much from it but it might just provide me with useful information about myself But then again, I don't really know what kind of answers you were looking for so I don't know what to expect from the dreams at all... maybe help me understand?

No, i haven't thought about that possibility...maybe they really were brief moments of waking up. I had that dream during daytime, so i think REM-sleep would be the stage i was in... [/b]
Maybe it's what happened It would explain the moments of blinking and upon opening your eyes finding yourself in a different situation. Everyone wakes up so many times a night, but we hardly remember any of them ^^ so it's possible. But if it was during daytime and you know exactly how long you slept, it's also possible that my explanation is not possible REM sleep stages occur at reasonably fixed intervals. ie: you can't have 4 REM sleepstages in 2 hours of sleep...

Why being very cautious? Why being cautious in trying to find a meaning to dreams at all? Without trying to give a dream a meaning...where does that leave the dream?...why are we able to remember our dreams then? [/b]
This would have everything to do with the next thing I said ^^ I didn't mean much by it, just that most ppl I talk who are into dream interpretation seem to be really convinced that how they see it is the way it is and that other links between events and symbols are false... I know it's not exact sience but be sceptical, that's all ^^ But you already are sceptical so I didn't have to say it

It seems you already knew a lot of what I said about dream interpretation I said in my post ~~ Sorry if I bored you with that.

I allready am keeping a dream journal... During the time i can recall my dreams, there are most of the time 1 to 3 dreams in a night remembered...this can continu for weeks and weeks...so i think the recalling is oke.. [/b]
Yeah I would agree that your recalling is more than okay But what puzzles me then are those periods without dreams... I would guess it's stress related or something, but you said it's part of some sort of freaky cycle.. Big dreams > ordinary dreams > no dreams > repeat. Right? I can't think of any cycle that would describe this. What would you say is the average duration of a single cycle? Maybe it's got something to do with your period? Just guessing here.. it's the only cycle I can think of.

I know...sometimes it can make me really go crazy..but then again...i like to think and think and think and dive deep in it...mostly after some time another piece of the puzzle falls in place...
The thinker...that's just me...i have never been a person for just believing in theories...i always want to look behind them and then pick things out of them which could be of use for me...not easily convinced...[/b]
That's the spirit ^^ Same here!

      Another question then:

What do you hope to learn from this site/forum? What are the grey areas in your knowledge of dreams? Last post I made the mistake of just putting down all sorts of info of which I didn't know whether or not you already knew it, so I'm not making that same mistake again!

      See ya!
