      Just recently I had my first LD, but this has been happening for as long as I can remember:
      This is very hard to explain but I'll do my best. Sometimes as I'm just about to fall asleep something weird happens. In first person I see some weird image pop into my head, and the image is always something happening to me, either something as little as tripping on something or something like getting hit by a truck. These are not long, only a split second at the most. But whenver they happen my body jumps and then I'm wide awake. I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but I'd be happy to hear anyone elses opinions on this.

      It sounds like your experiencing hypnagogic imagery (HI), and then a hypnic jerk. This is very common while falling asleep.

      It happens to me just as I'm drifting off to sleep - I'll imagine I've tripped and my whole body will jerk and I'll wake up.

      You should check out the HIT tutorial and use the HI to your advantage.
