      Unhappy

I am a curious, intelligent, continually seeking self-improvement, lover of knowledge, people, and animals. I have been a "guest" here at DV for approx. 2 weeks. I have always loved to dream...I had frequent ,vivid nightmares as a child..I have a reoccurring dream that only takes place when I am sick (w/fever over 100 degrees)...I have dreams of drowning(#1 dream/nightmare)...I dream of a place I have never physically been to(this is my reoccurring dream)...I have spirits(mostly good) that come to me in my dreams instead of visiting me during waking hours (I'm stating this matter-of-factly, I am not into anything paranormal). I believe I have had some low-level lucid "moments" in my dreams, if anything of this nature is possible.

I am interested in developing lucid dreaming. I have taken some time to explore this website and I feel that my own beliefs are closest to "seeker"'s (a DV moderator). Like him, I am married and do not want my lucid dreams to include anything that I feel is morally wrong (sex with anyone other than my husband, murdering another living being (except in self defense), etc...) but from my understanding of lucid dreaming (from what I've read on this board), my personal beliefs will carry over into the dream state.

I do have one simple question though for now----is anyone over 45 years of age on this board? I am 49.

Hi, welcome to DV and thanks for taking the time to check out the board!
spirits or 'dreamguides' can visit you in your dreams, there's nothing paranormal in that at all. My symbol most frequently seems to be a horse, it usually comes when some kind of challenge is facing me, and i have to master it. (the horse, and the challenge&#33
Low-level moments of lucidity are entirely possible. Most people have these quite a lot, but don't realise what they are until they discover lucid dreaming.
The next thing to do is find a technique to induce lucid dreaming.

For that i recommend checking out the Tutorials Forum. There are some great techniques on there for inducing a lucid dream. You just have to play around with them, find out which one works for you.

In a lucid dream, YOU are in control. So the chances are, you probably wouldn't go having immoral sex or killing someone...I too believe that our personal beliefs carry over into our dream state.
But then i have a theory that they are only dreams, and it's not quite the same as actually doing something like that in real life.

I could waffle on for ages about that, with different scenarios, but i've talked enough for now.
So, enjoy your time exploring and getting to know people!

btw, i'm 22...so, a bit short of my forties, but still...

Hey, good point. Are those ACTUALLY your shoes, Liz? If not, where did you get the avatar from? They're frickin' gorgeous. Reminds me of Dorothy from Oz, even though Dorothy's shoes were red not rainbow...

Anyway. ! (I'm 21, btw, so, I'm not exactly wizened myself) I think there are a few people in their 30s, 40s around here.

      But, I'm curious:
I have spirits(mostly good) that come to me in my dreams instead of visiting me during waking hours (I'm stating this matter-of-factly, I am not into anything paranormal).[/b]
How can you believe in "spirits" but not believe in anything paranormal? (I'm a complete atheist and skeptic, btw, so, I don't believe in "spirits" at all.)

Also, your username makes me think of U2. The :October" reference I think, but, weird. It just does.

      Anyway, see you around!

      Hey Meanie
      Thanks for the welcome.

I do believe in ghosts/spirits but do not delve into the paranormal world. I have had "visits" from people whom I have loved that have died that come to me in my dreams. Are they "visits" or I am I just dreaming of the dead person?, I'm afraid I'm skeptical, too, and have asked myself that very question. I believe these spirits have chosen to come to me through a dream, instead of during my waking hours. Why, I don't know.

Also, your username makes me think of U2. The :October" reference I think, but, weird. It just does[/b]
I got my username from my birthmonth. Ingenious, yeah, I know. LOL.
      I do like U2 actually.

      Talk with you another time!

      And a "Hey" to bonsay
Geez...went to sleep thinking "this is going to be the night for a lucid dream", and I couldn't remember the three non-lucid dreams I had! I suppose remembering I had three was a least SOMETHING!!!!!!

October is my favorite month ever! I think it's because of my favorite fall season and Halloween. I even got married in October! Nice profile pic, btw.

Yes, I love the fall, too! October is beautiful month to get married in. I got married in May of the year you were born!!! I did get engaged in October.

I also love cats and I see you are a cat lover. I have six cats (unknown breed---"mixed", I guess you could call them&#33
Fritzi, Daisy, Big Mac, Harley, Roadrunner, and Cricket.

Licensed Veternary Technician? I am interested in learning more about that degree. My daughter would be interested also. PM me with details if you will about the amount of schooling, etc...

      Also, thanks for the welcome.

I'd be glad to get you some more info. I'm off to work right now, but I can PM you the details tonight or tomorrow if that's okay. Can you send me a PM to remind me?

Dreams (non-lucid) can be so convincing, so its hard to tell, but if you feel the same presence as the persons had when they lived, I would say yes - it might just have been a visit.

And why in dreams and not in waking hours? hmm.. Perhaps it's easier to "make contact" on the dream plane? I dont know anything about this, but that just sounds logical to me.
And since many people would be freaked out by seeing "dead people", it might be easier for these spirits to i.e. deliver a message, since you have an more open mind in your dreams.

      Makes sense?

Anyways, welcome to the boards, Octoberchild, and good luck with your lucid progress (just ask if you need help, although im new on the boards like yourself, I have some experience that I hopefully can share if needed! )

Yes, I believe you are right, I would definitely be freaked out if I saw a spirit in my waking hours.....I think that by coming to me in my dreams I accept them easier.
      Thanks for the welcome,btw!
