Boring intro stuff: I'm from Canada, I'm a furry (if anyone knows what that is, +2 pts&#33, I love random stuff like building computers, working in machine shops all that jazz.

So! After recently conversing with a friend over all the weird dreams we had, we started discussing lucid dreaming. He told me about being able to be aware you're dreaming, and then having the ability to control yourself within it! That was motivation enough to do some googling ( lol... ) and I found myself here!

To start off, I don't quite know where my dream recall stands. I typically remember 1-2 dreams per week, but they're usually not that detailed (maybe if I wrote them down as soon as I got up, they would be! ). Is that normal for someone starting out? The main goal I want to focus on right now is improving that number to as high as I can get it. I'm 16, so I've got no problem being up late at night to record stuff!

Now, I think I've had a few lucid dreams before. They've only been nightmares, though. Right before something awful would happen, I'd realize, "Hey moron! I'm dreaming!!" and instead of trying to change the dream, my first reflex is to try and wake myself up (which I would accomplish by trying to open my eyes as far as I could, this almost always brought me out of it.) hence, I'd only be lucid for a few seconds.

Hehe, so yeah, that's me I'm totally excited to get working on this!

Like I mentioned, I'd really like to improve my dream recall. I'm starting a DJ tonight. Would it help to write down any fragments of dreams I've had in the past? Or should I start fresh?

Thanks all! You'll be seeing a lot of me!
      Disregard that.

Hi there Otter! Don't worry - I know where Nova Scotia is, lol - I actually know people from there!

It's cool you found the forum! Most people are so psyched when they find us because they never knew what they were doing was lucid dreaming, or even that it had a name. And this forum is a good find because of all the the info it contains, and also because of the awesome community within. I'm sure you'll enjoy it here.

And yeah, start keeping a DJ right away! Feel free to write down any dreams you remember from before if you want - there are really no rules since your journal is for your eyes only (unless you're keeping one through this site and other members can read it).

Though I do recommend keeping a pad of paper and a pen next to your bed so you can scribble down notes and stuff right after waking up. You'll find that the longer you wait to write down a dream after you've woken up, the less you'll remember. Personally, I jot down notes and keywords when I wake up so I can remember the jist of the dream, then I record it in its entirety in my DJ which I keep as a Word document on my computer.

I posted a day or so ago about the format I use for my DJ as an example - see this thread to view it. I'd also recommend looking through other member's DJ's here on DV to see what types of formats they use. Everyone's different so just do whatever works for you. The important part is just recording anything and everything you remember.

Also, here's the link for the dream recall tutorial if you're interested.

      Good luck and have fun!

      Thanks, Burns!

I have a 'puter here I can use to store a neat, tidy DJ. I'll start keeping a notepad beside my bed, as well

Looking at the tutorial, I'm liking this method to start off my experiances:

Set your alarm clock for 90 minutes intervals (the time it takes to get into REM) and hopefully your alarm clock will go off when you are in REM. It will be much easier to remember dreams if you wake up during REM. Every time you wake up write down anything you remember. The downside to this method is you won't get a lot of sleep so you should only use it until you can remember a couple of dreams per night, and then stop doing it. [/b]
It's Friday, and I don't plan on doing anything before noonish tommorrow, so a bit of lost sleep won't be an issue!

Again, thanks! Can't wait to get to bed tonight! ^_^
      Disregard that.
