Hey everyone...Happy Holidays!

My name is Todd and I signed up on this website a few years ago. For whatever reason, it got away from me, and now I'd like to get back into this little community and start working on LDing again. Anyway, just wanted to say hello!

Also, I have an LD-related question that I hope someone can help me with. I find myself, occasionally, in a weird state which I think is some sort of bridge between consciousness and unconsciousness. My eyes are closed, but I can hear and am aware of the world around me, so I think I'm awake. However, I am completely paralyzed! I cannot move a single muscle, not even open my eyes. I feel like I am trapped in this state. The only way I get out of it is to, seemingly, muster up all the strength I have to move something (arm, leg, even just a finger). As soon as I successfully move something, no matter how small, the paralysis is broken and I'm back to normal, awake.

Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? Help!!!

      Welcome (back&#33 to Dreamviews Todd!

The state your experiencing is called Sleep Paralysis. When we sleep, the brain injects a chemical through our body to paralyze the muslcles so we don't act out in the physical world, while we dream. Sleep Paralysis can also come early, and be experienced while your awake if your in a state of relaxation.

Again, welcome back to the Forums. If you have any other questions be sure to ask! Our wonderful and friendly community would be more than happy to help.

      Happy Dreaming!

      Welcome back, Ramses

Exo pretty much covered it about the sleep paralysis. Nothing to worry about.

Hope to see you around the forum more. Good luck and have fun!

I used to experience exactly this ALL the time! First happened to me nearly ten years ago and I would go through stages of having it practicaly every other night for weeks then nothing for 6 months or so.

A couple of years ago I started experiencing it again quite acutely and tried to find some ways of dealing with it. I can't remember the site that I found the technique from (do a couple of google searches on sleep paralysis - this is quite a bit of info out there on it) but here is the suggestion that (nearly) completely turned it around for me:

When you realise you can't move, instead of trying to move physically try and imagine yourself, or will yourself to move - if you see what I mean. Also, try to imagine yourself doing a forward roll or 2 or 3 in a row in one fluid continous motion. It took a couple of times but the 2nd or 3rd time I tried this I broke free from my paralysis flew out the window and starting flying round the garden!! What before had seemed like a curse was now potentially a very exciting and enjoyable experience. Since then, I've had sleep paralysis less and less but recently have become more interested in lucid dreaming and controlling what I do in my dreams, hence joing this forum (this is my first post, hi!&#33.

Good luck with it Todd, I hope you can turn this around into a good experience!

      Dan
