Quick queston for everyone. I've been keeping a DJ sporadically for about the last 4 months. I say sporadically because some mornings (or middle of the nights) it's just too much work/time/thinking to write out everything I'm remembering. I recently purchased a nice little digital voice recorder for school, and was wondering what you all thought about possibly keeping this by my bedside instead of a notepad, and recording my dream memories vocally. I could then either store the entries on my computer via mp3, or transcribe the entires into text later. Has anyone tried this? Does anyone think that the actual act of writing is what really aids retention, and just speaking aloud won't? Very interested to hear (read) everyone's input.

(I posted in the newbie zone because I didn't want to "invade" an area I'm not ready for. If this post should go in another area, please feel free to move it, mods&#33

You should use whatever works best for you.

Recording your dreams instead of writing them down should be fine if you want to save time, but I would think it would be more difficult to notice similarities and reoccuring dream signs in an audio format. I'd say try it for awhile and see how you like it.

Yeah, Audio is much more difficult to catalog and stuff , and written dream journals are searchable, easily modified if you remember more, and for me I Type faster than I talk, especially in the morning. Plus it would be easier to compose my thoughts.

i thought about doing that, but then i realised that if i woke up at five am, and went to record something...chances are that when i played it back i wouldn't be able to understand it.

I used to record when I first woke up, then write it down when I had time. Sadly most of the time my early morning rambligs made little or no sense, so I just made notes and wrote them up instead. Worked much better for me.

I'm a fan of having journals written on paper, it's nice to read back though my scribbles and doodles about my early dreams.
