Well, um, obviously I'm new here, and pretty new to LD. I'm pretty shy in forums but I figured this was too important to sit back and be quiet about, so...

I think I've had a few lucid dreams in the past without knowing that they were called that. The most recent instance I can remember happened earlier this month... it was a very abstract dream at first, so much so that it was pretty easy for me to realize I was dreaming, even without knowing anything about RCs and so forth. I have an 'obsession' with wings and flying, so I tested to see if I had control by 'wishing' for wings. This didn't go so well at first because I ended up gliding around hanging onto a white bedsheet, but then that turned into my wings and I was standing in a clearing in a forest. I was conscious of taking a deep breath and counting down before I tried to fly - and not only did it work, but I felt everything, from the muscles in my wings and back working to lift me up (which, to my delight, did not hurt) to the wind blowing over me as I mounted into the sky. I was so excited that I don't know how I stayed asleep, but then I lost control of the dream and it basically backed out to third person and I watched myself fly around, unable to feel it anymore. Not long after that, I woke up.

That realistic feeling of those wings and that flight is why I want to get into lucid dreaming. If I can control my dreams and point situations in that direction by my consciousness of being in a dream, maybe I'll get to feel that again.

Yes, I'm weird and I have a weird obsession. But that's okay. We're all dreamers here, right? :3

Hello, I hope you don't mind my posting since I am very new here as well. I was just fascinated by your experience. I've only had instances where I was aware in a dream, I have never yet to my knowledge, achieved any sort of control. The kind of thing that you just described is something that I am only able to think about, and even then I have difficulty grasping the whole concept. Achieving that kind of thing on your own is very impressive to me, I don't really know anything but it sounds as if you'll catch on to this lucid dreaming business far quicker than I probably will.

Welcome to the forums! It has been truly awesome to read about your experience. Once again I offer my apology if I was not who you were expecting to post in your thread, there are people here who are advanced in lucid dreaming who will probably leave comment shortly.

Hey there, welcome to Dream Views. That's a pretty cool experience

It's amazing the sort of things we can feel and do in lucid deams, good luck in the future with this, both of you.

bentrider08: That's alright - just like I expect others in this forum are, I am open to any and all who would like to discuss the fascinating world of dreams. I never realized until I did some serious research that being able to control your dreams or having an unusual awareness in them is not all that uncommon and actually learnable. While you might be right, I have some serious problems with dream recall - I rarely remember what I dream, even while dreaming. I think that if I work on keeping a dream journal of the times I do remember, I'll be able to work farther into it.

Thank you, and best of luck to you as well

      And thanks, D!

Well, I am looking forward to better dream recall too. I have had a lot of dreams that are in what I call "snippet form". I'll have them and instead of remembering a whole cohesive story I can only recover bits and pieces, like snippets of video from a larger movie. A dream journal really helps helps because now when trying to remember something I know what questions to ask myself and surprisingly in a very short span of time I am remembering longer snippets! I hope that over time I will be able to remember the entire thing, and as many different dreams I have during one night.(so far my capacity seems to be only one dream at a time that I pick to remember, all others fade out in the process of remembering the one I picked.)

You might want to check out the dream journal section of the forums, onieronaut's stuff is fun to read and is exciting to think that one could gain such awareness in a dream.
