I had my first LD last night, and altough I can't remember how I got awareness, part way trough a dream I can't remember I suddenly realised that "Hey, I'm dreaming." It was kind of cool because, even though I didn't do much except exploring my own dreamworld, I have now had a Lucid experience.

Possible theory on how I became lucid: going to sleep imagining my best friend telling me I'm dreaming might have had some effect.

congratulations!! don't be put off by the shortness of it, most people find that their first few dreams are short...the excitement is usually the cause of that.

Sounds like you have a method that worked, are you going to try it again?

the concept that I tried is rather difficult to explain, you have to kind of imagine the person you know the best in your life telling you that you are dreaming. You have to be able to "hear" their voice in your head, and so when you drift off to sleep, that phrase which your friend "said" will be carried forth into your dream. I think that part way through my friend just came up to me and said, "you're dreaming."
