Refer to the topic title. I know there is obviously a variance in the realness of lucid dreams, but just how real can they get?

Of course it varies, but it can feel very real. Sometimes it can feel as real as reality. Just ask Howetzer

Sometimes it can feel dull, unvivid, and unrealistic. Other times it can feel as real as the physical world. It can be an awesome experience.

yeah, as said: it varies, and can seem just like the world we are in now.

All of my lucid dreams have seemed one hundred percent real. Well... real as in all five senses.

Check out Howie's experience for an idea of just how real an LD can get. This is actually an extreme case, however it just goes to show what can be achieved.

My first LD was so incredibly real that going from the dream state to the LD state was like the proverbial wool being taken off of my eyes. Other LD's after that have been as conscious to me but not as clear as if they were a bit hazy, kinda like how television programs show a character dreaming with the fuzz around the screen.

It is a truly uplifting experience...Best wishes

I'll agree with the statement "it varies." With one lucid dream I had, I hit my hand on a fence and it hurt like hell. I remember there was some blood and i assumed that there would be a bruise when I woke up. Though, on the other hand I had this dream where I got shot and I didn't feel a thing. So it does varies with how much a real lucid dream can feel. I think that how it would feel in waking life, will be exactly the same in a dream. Except for the being shot. It's no fun in waking life to get shot a from what I hear it hurts.

dude lucid dreaming is realer than real life at times. Like some of the lucid dreams i have experienced things not even possible in real life. Falling 200 ft to the ground while feeling that constant falling feeling and the wind wipping all around you. Going into space and car crashes all feel real. Yet Lucid dreams can be detailed all the way down to feeling the button on the remote to turn off the tv. Or picking up a spicy chip off the ground and eating it and tasting it. lucid dreaming is so cool man. Im never going to stop doing it.

      Basically...

it feels just real as your waking life, and maybe even "more" real; sort of a heightened realness can be experienced.

I agree with most, it does varies. I think it also depends on what your mind thinks is real and it manifest that feeling to the most relateable experience from your waking life. That's probably why it feels the same. You remember all feelings in the waking world of course so it's only logical that they would transfer into the dream world. Sometimes some things feel real and sometimes certain things just don't.

      Cool

Pretty Real for me - I am as concious as I would be when awake and my mind seems to function in the same way. Sometimes the environments are very real - in my longest LD I was looking at the sky and touched the trunk of a tree and it was like I was really standing there, the bark was so realistic. Some
of the times the environments have been hazier and less vivid. I think that all LD's are as real as
real life but it is your recall that determines your memory of them when you wake up as even if they
are ultra real while you are in them if your recall is bad then you won't remember it well upon awakening.

The brain is what gives you your experience of the waking world and the dream world is no different
and no less real other than the brain has no external stimulus from the 5 senses while sleeping and
so it has to generate what it is perceiving from memories and imagination!
