      WILD/MILD help

While trying to picture things while going to sleep, are you supposed to stare into the blackness of your eyes and imagine pics, or picture them in your mind... While trying to fall asleep I just stare at the blackness of my eyelids and I think sooooo much and its very distracting.. any tips would be nice...

Sometimes, imagination can get them started. You know the process, when you are sitting somewhere boring, like a waiting room and you look out the window and daydream about being somewhere else? How your mind kind of takes you there and you temporarily forget where you are?

I find that this will usually start up the imagery for me and before long, I will start to feel the vibrations.

So next time, daydream about something you enjoy doing, really get into it. I think that should work for you.

Like you, I've spent many hours sitting in the darkness staring at the back of my eyelids and asking, "I'm giving up a good hour of sleep for THIS!!??"

      But it is worth it!

      Welcome to the forum!

Like Seeker said, try to day dream about something you REALLY enjoy...this can help get your unconscious start filling in the hypnogic imagery that can form the dream!

What lowercase and seeker said is great advice. I generally don't get hypnagogic imagery unless I start to try and imagine things myself and then it will just keep on becoming more and more complicated and I am more and more inmersed. By this time I am no longer imagining things willfully but my unconscious has taken over.....

the one time that i did a WILD, i just kept picturing hawaii, which has been a lifelong dream of mine to go there. and when i was picturing it, i would imagine maybe the water for one second, then birds, then hawaiin people. basically i would concentrate on just one thing at a time which all had the quality to them that made me think of hawaii.

      Welcome Mr. 74!!! :yumdumdoodledum:

30-60 minutes... The time is not important. It is how much you have awakened that matters. I usually stay awake about 10-20 minutes, but during that time, I try to exercise my brain as much as possible.

The key is to fully awaken yourself before laying back down again.

Good luck! Believe me, it is worth the effort!

      WELCOME!!!!!

Seeker is right, my objective during this time is to become as aware as I can. When I am aware enough(like today) I don't even need to WILD or MILD. I just fall asleep and somehow realize its a dream with no problem whatsoever. Today, as soon as I entered the dreamstate I knew I was dreaming(although I also thought it might have been an OOBE), without performing a succesful WILD.

Awareness is the key my friends, become aware of the truth and it shall set you free......

yeah just tonight I got lucid for about 2 minutes again! *cheers* It was low-level though.
I just realised it or something, then checked my digital watch to make sure. I had my old digital watch on thats broken, so that alerted me, and the fact that at first it showed 06:32 and then when I pressed the button to enable the light of my digiwatch it beeped and freaked out, then reset itself to 00:00.

I try to check my watch troughout the day and just be aware of how waking life is, and check for inconsistencies, and just try to figure out why a dream feels different...

Whatever it takes to get your mind functioning. Personally, I don't do anything physical because once I get my blood pumping, then it's a long time before I can get back to sleep.

      I multiply prime numbers in my head, something like 19 X 23 or 17 X 19.
You might also try to work out some kind of logic problem, or write code in your head. I do this while sitting in the dark so as not to disturb my wife.

If you are able to get up and turn on a light, you might try something like a crossword puzzle.

      Good luck!

What Seeker said is a very good way to do it. What I do is really hard to describe, but it works for me better than any other method. I just try to wake up my brain as much as posible, try to bring myself completely into the waking world. I become aware of my surroundings, I try to interiorize the feeling I get when I am awake in order to contrast it to the slightly different one I might have when I am dreaming.

I make an effort to become as aware as possible and know that if I get to the desired level of self awareness I will become lucid without much problem. I use experience to build up my confidence and know if I achieve the level I need, I can just roll over and fall asleep and sooner or later recognize it is a dream.

The combination of having a half awake brain, feeling the difference between the waking and dream world, and knowing that not very long ago I was in bed and now am in a perhaps different location makes it possible to realize my dreamstate....

Thanks Seeker!!! Maybe I can write the tutorial I was looking to write about something related to this, somehow...I obviously would have to look into it and specify the objective of it a bit more....

i've been falling asleep lately while trying to WILD so i tried and wake my brain up a lil bit by doing a word search, its was a rather large one. nope, didn't work, fell asleep while trying. I really want to get back to having those LD's, they were so awesome. any other tips on stayin awake?? i think driving really works well for me, but i hate to do that after 5hrs of sleep, lots of work!
