The key in lucid dreaming is to somehow know that you are dreaming while in the dream. There are many techniques that you can use to become lucid. You can find most of them here in the Tutorial section.
The most common way of inducing lucidity is the DILD technique - Basicly what I described above. The key things that help you are Dream Recall, which you can improve by writing down any dream you remember in the morning and using Reality checks, which you do douring the day and hopefully when you dream, they help you realize you're dreaming and that way induce a LD. Examples of Reality Checks: pinching yourself, plugging your nose and trying to breathe, questioning the reality around you, trying to do "impossible" things like flying, pushing your finger through your palm, looking at some text turning away and checking it again to see if it changed in anyway, ...
So a good way to start is improving your dream recall and possibly doing reality checks douring the day whenever you remember.
