      Thumbs up

...Well not really, but for the next few months I am going to be taking the first steps, but I am kind of scared....I have heard from someone I know who has tried this that he had a dream that he woke up..shortly after I read about that in the guide this website gave. Can someone who has had experience with this please help out, if i ever do experience this, what should I do? What if I keep thinking that I am dreaming??

Heh. Something like that would be dependent on the person. My first LD was utterly forgettable and lasted only a couple seconds...

And holapato, yes, that's a genuine concern, I know exactly what you're talking about. Once you get into it, it's really not that big a deal though. It's called a false awakening, where you believe you have woken up but are actually still dreaming. Having that happen can be quite a shock if you happen to encounter some weird dream scenario afterwards, but you can avoid it if you learn and regularly practice RCs (reality checks, look in the tutorials section of the forums for more info). When you get proficient with that you will be able to easily differentiate between the waking and dream states, so it's not a big problem.

Post back here if you have any more questions/comments.

Your first LD will be frick'n awesome. Sometimes, people have their first LD's and they are incoherant and fuzzy, but believe me, they love that dream because of the accomplishment.

After my first LD, I cried, because it was so beautiful. When I talked about it, I would find myself weeping. It was seriously an awesome experience.

If I were you, I wouldn't worry. You'll get the hang of LDing, and you might have a false awakening, or you might just wake up at the excitement of it all. But, you will get the hang of it.
      Shine on, you crazy diamond!

Rock on dudet, I'm right there with ya. I've had a dream journal for a month or two now but more often then not I'd be too lazy to write in it in the morning. (I get really hazy in the morning. Once, after a long night of study, I realized that I was late for school because I wouldn't let myself get out of bed until I could find the derivative of the cosine of 6:30AM. Hopefully focusing on something (dream journal) will help deter that.)
But this time I'm serious about it, I bought some books on Amazon about the subject, re-did my dream journal all fancy-like, and I'm tryin to do reality checks every time I see something that intrigues me. I hope it comes quickly to you, if I find anything worth while in lucid dreams in 30 days I'll be sure to make a post about it.

      Also,
This is my first post, I find that just talking about dreams tends to improve my recall, which is quite attrocious still, so I'll be lurking in the area. Just wanted to say hi to everyone *waves*.

^-- that was my roundabout way of sayin' "howdy" and "good luck!"

As far as the false awakenings go, I am no expert but it seems like if you get in the habit of doing a reality check every time you wake up (I check both clocks in my room to see if they match somewhat) you can avoid them, or if you are lucky you'll become lucid if a false awakening happens in a regular dream.
