What I do when I need to wake myself up is drink a ton of water before going to sleep. That way, in four or five hours, I've got to get up to go to the bathroom. The only hitch with this plan is that sometimes getting up to go to the bathroom can impair your recall significantly, and having the self-control to write down the dreams before you relieve yourself isn't always easy.
Anyway, other than that, just the typical suggestions:
-Sleep on a regular schedule if at all possible.
-Exercise regularly.
-Make sure you're intaking the proper vitamins.
-Don't allow yourself to sleep longer than 8 hours.
