What Is Considered A "dead Thread" Around Here?

I usually consider anything on the first or second pages of posts to be recent enough to the point where posting in it would not be disruptive, but I've noticed here that sometimes even threads on the first page may go back a few days. Anything I should be paticulary careful of in regard to the age of a thread?
