I am new to this forum, and so far I love what I see. I am very new to this whole concept, so I had a few questions. I apologize in advance if there is already a thread with the same questions, but i looked for awhile and couldn't find any.

First off, what exactly is WILDing? (wake induced lucid dreaming, right?) I know it is a technique used to induce an LD, but what does it require?

For that matter, what are the meanings of the other abbreviations such as WBTB, DILD, and such. The only one I know is SP is sleep paralysis, and I'm not even sure if I could correctly define that.

I have a desire to start controlling my dreams, and I have begun keeping a dream journal and doing some basic RCs whenever I remember. Once again, I apologize if these questions have already been attended to.

Welcome to the forums, I'm also fairly new here, however I've already checked out quite a bit of the forums. Concerning the acronyms, they are all covered in the Tutorials section, more precisely here in this link. Hope it helps

As for WILD, it involves keeping yourself conscious from waking straight into dreaming, allowing you to realize you're dreaming immediately at the start of the dream. It usually involves waking up about six hours after you go to bed, staying awake for about 10-30 minutes, to wake up your mind enough that you know you won't fall asleep immediately, then you get back in bed, and then use one of the various techniques available (e.g. counting your breaths, reverse blinking, etc.) to both relax your body and keep yourself aware. Then in about a half hour or so, all sorts of interesting things like vibrations, sleep paralysis, and hypnogogic imagery tend to happen, and if you just let these progress you usually enter into a dream.
WILD is fairly popular since, although it is harder than most of the other techniques, once you figure it out it's more reliable than a lot of the other techniques, and lucid dreams entered through WILD tend to be more vivid and lucid then others. If you want to learn more, there are some pretty good guides in the Tutorials subforum, which will help out a lot if you wish to try WILD.
