I'd like to let everyone know I am here, hopefully a community will inspire me to try lucid dreaming more often than just when I have a nightmare. My lucidity seems less about how to control a dream and more how to destroy it, not that I'm ineffective, just there are better things to do. So I will be attempting lucid dreaming for the first time soon, I have set up an alarm system so that I can start to record my dreams well. My computer is right beside my bed with the contrast turned way down as not to hurt my eyes. This will be night number one, well the first night of really buckling down and doing it anyway.

I hope I stay into this enough to keep me here, you all seem to have so much fun with lucidity, and I do not like being left out alone.

Also, my profile says I have an interest in the occult, I do, but I don't believe in anything out of the ordinary, just an interest.

Also, anyone here into just recording their thoughts as well, its another interesting thing when you take enough time. You would be surprised how informational it can be. I plan on upping my participation in that as well to see what the correlation between my waking conscience and my sleeping one.

I have one pretty major question to ask, is this a society of people? Does this group extend to beyond this forum? do most use the internet to stay in touch? and how do you identify (what do you call) yourselves?

I have been rather successful in the first step, I successfully recalled three dreams last night. Mostly boring, but I think I am already starting to notice trends. Other peoples houses, big houses. Just one problem...

How the hell do I make sense of the things I write so late at night there are no real complete thoughts... here is an example... and I don't even remember writing it...

I was hitding in the snowbank when the pochers came the animals had time to escape but the wolf hunting dowg held my art in its maw once discovered that they discovered me. COmplex xocial backgrounds, odd relationships, I hppe the grandmother is not trying to kill the grandhiled

nothing was changed from what I wrote last night (around three in the morning)... by art I think I meant arm... also I think I was working backwards through the dream...

Any help is appreciated!

Hey there Revan and welcome to the forum

Well if you want help you will need to do a dream journal to help your recall and allow you to recognize dream signs. You may also want to do Reality Checks to question your surroundings, after a short amount of time this will manifest itself into your dreams and help you become lucid.

There's plenty of information here and even an adoption forum to help you get adopted, but you MUST be a member for ATLEAST 2 weeks first before you apply.

Apart from dreaming theres also an offtopic area where you can just chill out, even grab a "brewski" ect.

Well have fun..."Cheerio"

If possible, when you finish writing that much, don't go straight back to sleep. Give yourself a few minutes to wake up a little more, then revise it, so it makes a little more sense. Repeat this until you have something that would make sense to you when you wake up again.

Even if you can't do this, when you wake up in the morning you will still remember some of your dreams, since you took time to remember them in the middle of the night. Using this memory and notes from the night before, you can then write a more coherent account of your dreams, even if the notes from the middle of the night really can't be understood on their own.

I've looked through the entire guide as it appears on the main page. With the exception of some tutorials about flying and other odd things which really don't interest me. I don't know if I want to 'control' my dreams, but I know I want lucidity.

I plan on doing this on my own for the mos part, so the adopt a n00b thing probably is not for me. Otherwise I'd just like to get to know some people who have had lucid dreams on a regular bases to know what they are interested in.

No dreams last night, my friend kept me up to late and I was pretty tired, though I know I had one. Hopefully that will not be true for tonight.

I think I am getting a couple of dreams signs though, one is being held by somethings mouth, its usually an animal, and usually by the arm. So, I have come to a total of two... still a ways to go.

I used to dream about schools a lot, though I don't really think that is practical...

i dont think anyone has answered this.. i'll try. most people here are from all over the place, but alot do talk out of the forum, by AIM or MSN or any other kind of messenger. I know of a guy here that lives 20 miles away from me, but ive never met him, and dont plan on it. there are some planning on meeting others and others planning on never leaving their computer desk, or laptop.
~ we have no certain name, just luciders really. the weird, crazy, odd, lunatic people that make up this forum, maybe.

Sounds like you are getting the gist of lucid dreaming, i hope it all goes well for you!

Yello,

How you doing? Sounds like you got a lot of motivation for learning to get Lucid, will certainly need some patience too in all experience like me. It's well fun learning about Lucidity and when you have had a few lucids you will want to get better and better at having them, its an amazing thing! Can't see why you wouldn't want to have control

Did you start a dream journal on DV yet - is well worth doing as it can help improve your recall loads and that is essential if you wanna get good at having Lucids Start working on your Reality Checks too as that is very good - I use the Hand RC.

Writing down your thoughts, hey? Never thought of doing that, seems interesting. When do you write them down? And what thoughts? Do you just have a notepad you carry around, or how do you find the time to do it?

Well, yes it's a society of people. We're all people...... I personally don't extend myself beyond the forums much, and yeah I use the internet and forums to stay in touch mostly.... But then again I live in far off Africa so nobody would find me anyhow

I call myself.... Brett. Yip. It's my name. My username is 13redfan, so occasionally I'm referred to by that. Other than that I'm not entirely sure what you mean.

I think the point of dreamsigns is to recognise that you're dreaming by recalling the signs, mostly by RCing when a dreamsign happens in waking life. So being held in the mouth of an animal is generally a pretty good dreamsign, except for RCing because, well, lets face it how often do animals hold your arm in their mouth?

I also have a bit of a problem with dreamsigns. Most often I dream about my girlfriend, so the idea would be to do an RC everytime I saw her in waking life, so that when I'm dreaming I also RC. Except I hardly ever see my gf coz she lives far away

Other than that water is the next most common thing, I haven't really tried RCing everytime I see water though.

Anyway, I'm also interested in the occult, I have been since I was a little kid I love that stuff!!!

Welcome, feel free to jump in the pool with us. Your interest and joining is a very good first step towards success. Then when you get your first taste you'll have even more drive and motivation.

I have one pretty major question to ask, is this a society of people? Does this group extend to beyond this forum? do most use the internet to stay in touch? and how do you identify (what do you call) yourselves?[/b]
I wouldn't call it a society but, I do think of it as a community. We all gather here to share a common interest and bond. There's no official club or activities outside of showing up here and sharing and hanging out. Sure, some members have (I'm sure) met and talk to each other outside of Dream Views but most haven't.

If you take the term used by Stephen LeBerge - the sleep/dream researcher who brought great credibility and acceptance to the scientific community with respect to lucid dreams, we'd be "Oneironauts" (Oh-nye-row-knots), which means "explorers of the dream world". I think some people here would avoid that term because there's several members that use it - in various forms - as their username. Many LDers consider themselves just that: "LDers" or "Lucid Dreamers".

And, yeah, keeping a dream journal helps to not only identify trends and common themes but, also to keep the idea of dreams in your mind. It forces us to think about our dreams and serves to reinforce a sense of importance and relevance to dreams. Those are critical elements for many people as it makes dreams more tangible and able to be reflected upon long after the fact. If we commonly ignore our dreams or don't bother to bring them into the realm of conscious thought then we can expect the same during our dreams.

No matter how outrageous certain dream characterists may be, if we don't ever bother to take notice then we're forced to rely too much on sheer luck alone.
