A couple of questions from a noob...

I'd like to thank nightmare on elm street which led me to the wikipedia article and eventually here :p

I think i had my first real lucid dream the other night ( i kind of had one when i was about 10 but id never heard of lucid dreaming - i tried pinching myself like i saw on TV back then but it didn't have any effect).

Anyway i have a couple of questions...

When i was in my dream it seemed fairly real like a normal dream ... then i woke up and my drem recall (which is a bit sketchy) hardly let me remember any of it. If i can really improve my abilities will it seem any more realistic? Will i be as aware as i am in normal life in my dreams, and will my memory of the dreams afterwards be as clear as remembering what i did yesterday?

If i ever manage to have a shared dream, at what point does it become shared? (i realise this might even be a mystery to a lot of you, it seems quite rare) I dream of my real life friends a lot but they dont dream any of the same dream as me when i check ... if their having a seperate dream somewhere how could i "wake them up" to become lucid in my dream f their just a DC?

      Cheers,
      Jim

Thought i'd add a couple more questions i thought of while im waiting for a reply :p

I've mostly been trying the DILD method (reminding myself to do reality checks right? cant be entirely sure rite now lol) as well as having a subliminal message program on my PC.

I want to try WILDing, and i've tried once, although i had to move before i got particuarly far (maybe 10 mins) cos i got uncomfortable, and then i was too tired and drifted off. I want to try this more but i'm a bit worried over it - or more specifically the weird halucinations i've heard come with SP - i reckon i'd get seriously put off from the whole thing if i had one of those.

Are there ways to stop these hallucinations? Am i less likely to get the succubus one if my bed is a foot from the ceiling? (high bed low ceiling lol) And should i be WILDing with my eyes shut or open, does it make any difference (surely SP hallucinations would appear / be so bad with my eyes shut?)

      Cheers in advance
      Jim

Improving your recall will help you remember details of the dream, which will in turn make it seem more clear. I strongly suggest you keep a Dream Journal to build recall. However, even with an improved recall, the clarity of the dreams tend to depend mostly on the individual dream.

In short, there is absolutely no way to stop the Hypnogogic Imagery. It's a natural part of the sleep process, and happens every single night, you're just not aware of it.

That being said, what Hypnogogic imagery you see is dependant a lot on your mind. If you're constantly thinking of the old hag and succubus, then yes, you'll see it. If you relax, and take things as they come, you'll see things that are a lot more gentle. Or, if you're like me, you might only see swirling light patterns (and these are plain cool, not scary.)

      Cheers

I have been keeping a dream journal to an extent - over the holidays i kept it for a week and noticed my dream recall definately improving - but school's started again and ive got exams coming up etc - i tend to get straight up when my alarm goes and forget about the journal... i try to keep it on weekends but it isnt doing that well ... exams finish in a month or so, hopefully then ill have a lot more time to work on the dream journal

As for the Hypnogogic Imagery ... i seem to be in a constant state of worry so it'll be hard for me to get the thought out of my head of getting a "Bad" vision ... but i'll try. I might keep working on DILDs at the moment though.

Its interesting that so many people get the same visions when in SP ... i wonder what causes that
