      Lucid dreaming, yes, how lucid?

I'm Jamous and I'm new to this site, and to lucid dreaming. I've been reading the Carlos Castaneda series and lucid dreaming comes up every so often. I want to learn to lucid dream as to better understand my mind and/or reality.

I'm fully convinced that lucid dreaming is for real, and something I would like to learn, but how great is it? Are you really that lucid? Or is just like a dream where you're really only concious about it when you wake up, and you're like "hey I had a lucid dream. I wish I had done something more interesting in it." To me, it feels like my dreams are always very foggy, are lucid dream the same way?

      Thanks,
      Jamous

Lucid dreams are definitely way more intense, real, and "of the moment" than you think. If you perform the "WILD" method (Wake-initiated lucid dream), you will go directly from being awake normally, straight into a lucid dream, without any lapse in consciousness whatsoever. You virtually go in bed, close your eyes, and are there.

The dream itself, once reached, is extremely vivid and realistic, and it's not the "conscious about it when you wake up"-type scenario, you're conscious about it as it is happening. You can gain control over many aspects of the dream, and perform such feats as flying, sexual intercourse, meeting/talking to God or anyone else, traveling anywhere in the world (or elsewhere!)... LDs are the ultimate virtual reality.

I suggest you check out our Tutorials section, and look at the WILD tutorials (this one's my favorite) and also check out some info on DILDs. DILDs (Dream-initiated lucid dreams) are the other type of lucid dream (most LDs fall into 2 categories: WILD and DILD), and they are usually easier to accomplish but occur after a lapse of consciousness, during an in-progress dream (you realize you're dreaming mid-through the dream). They tend to be much less realistic than a WILD... A WILD is often compared to an OBE (Out of Body experience), and some think it's the same phenomenon—it's extremely clear and realistic, awe-inspiring really. It's almost more "real" than actual life, with heightened senses and consciousness in certain cases.

All excitement aside, welcome to Dream Views, and enjoy your membership.
