      is this for real????

      Readers,
After reading all I could on this site I decided to buy a book about this subject. The first one I bought was on astral projections by a guy named THOMAS. It was very informative and interesting and covered lucid dreaming. I like this site b/c it does not impose the use of crystals and mirrors and the like into its framework. I decided to try a few of these techniques out a couple nights ago. Here it goes....I did not eat several hours before and i remained calm. I watched a yoga video I had purchased and went thru a few of the breathing exercises. I took valerian root and melatonin to help with my sleep. I focused my eyes inward and slightly upward towards my third eye, so they say. I used the breathing exercises I have read about and tried to clear my mind and only focus on a shape or object in the sky thru my eyelids. It is so hard to concentrate, its seems in theory easy to just laydown and think about nothing as you quiet your mind down. However, it is definately easier said than done. Five minutes into this i started to feel real weird. Like something strange was happening. I could feel my eyes moving rapidly and i could not control them. It felt different. Is this all in my head? I have finished 2 books about the subject of lucid dreaming and astral projection. It is just so hard to come to grips with the reality that I may possess this power. Any kind words would be appreciated. Also, the reason this experience ended was because I got kind of scared with what I thought may or may not have been happening. I believe if what i read was correct that my mind then because of my fear prevented me from going any further. I do not know anymore......

      Hi,
It certanly is for real. All your exercises and techniques seem to have taken you very deep into trance. The eye movement thing might have been (probably) REM sleep. Now all you have to do is stop being afraid and then the fun begins. Although I am still afraid, but I've had fun anyway.

I have taken many classes in the sciences and now history and if this is true, it is life changing. it takes everything i have learned and throws it out the window. it really is scary. i almost feel as if i can't comprhend this. i also bought a dvd called "What the bleep do you know" it seems to coincide with LD's and astral projection. I have so many questions and the more i read the more questions i have. is there any guidance on this? How come everyone dosen't know about this, if it is so easily acceptable? I came across this site because of some 100 things to do everyday list or what not. I was like chess, crossword puzzles, lucid dreaming....whats that? and now my life is changed to say the least. and i have kept a DJ now and am trying techniques, but if am so lucky to experience this, i cannot imagine what another step that will do to my whole world...........thank you all for the site and the feedback......

It does have life-changing effects. It turned me from a skeptic into a very open minded individual. This isn't as widely known, at least in "our" society, because it's not really an important part of our culture. You might hear someone mention "I had a dream today..." from time to time, but that's about it. Nobody really cares about dreams, sometimes to a point where one doesn't remember any at all (for years?). There are many different cultures that accept dreaming as very important. I remember that there is this Shenoi tribe, the indians, aborigines, there are the tibeteans who have had this dream yoga for hundreds of years and it's safe to say that there are or at least were many, many more. They all have these techniques and rules regarding this strange dream world, which mostly means nothing to us. All you can do now is make your own way of life, if it involves dreaming then go ahead. In the end nobody has to know.

      Good luck!

Be careful about mixing lucid dreaming and astral projection. There's lots of debate about AP's being LD's and LD's being AP's or both being different.
Lucid dreaming isnt about leaving the body, many lucid dreamers dont believe astral projection is possible for example. Lucid dreaming is simply gaining awareness that you're dreaming and this has been proven to exist, astral projection is in my opinion a different subject altogether and probably partly to blame for lucid dreaming not being taken seriously by alot of people.

This being said astral projection is an interesting subject and many of the techniques used for AP will come in handy for lucid dreaming anyway.

lucid dreaming is very real and is a life changing experience, its the ultimate freedom and I think deserves a place on the list of things to achieve. Stick with it and im sure we'll be around to give you all the support you need to experience it for yourself.

I completely agree. AP gives lucid dreaming that nasty taste of "fairies and pixie dust" in many people's mouths. I tend to believe that they are really the same thing. In other words, I think that people sometimes misinterpret lucid dreaming phenomena as an out-of-body or astral projection occurrence. I believe they are in the same family and merely variations of LDs, rather than the types of happenings that their experiencers believe them to be.

I think if you were to teach lucid dreaming to some one who's had an AP or OBE experience - if they were honest about it - they'd probably say, "Oh that's what that was. Now I get it!"

It's easy to assign mystical causation to unfamiliar experiences when it's really unwarranted.

Welcome to the forum agustus. I for one know lucid dreaming is real and so does mostly everyone else on this forum however I'm not sure about astral projection, I'm skeptic about it and I am not ruling it out.

If you would like a book on lucid dreaming, I'd recommend the EWOLD by LeBarge, it's like the bible to lucid dreamers.

      Welcome to DV, man.

I definitely agree with the last few posts.
Astral projection, by definition, is a metaphysical phenomenon that has yet to be proven. Lucid dreaming is something that (as far as has been scientifically verified) happens completely within one's mind, and separates itself from astral projection by the dreamer's mind not needing to "leave his/her body" to be experienced.

I'd say there is nothing wrong with researching astral projection, if you are interested in it, but you shouldn't confuse it with lucid dreaming. "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming" (EWOLD, as NeAvO suggested) is a great place to start reading up on LD'ing, itself.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask around.

thanks for all the help everyone. I have read all I can on the net about Ld's and I can't wait. I do have the feeling of falling and then i hit the bed and its almost as if it was real. I have had this feeling often while trying to become lucid. I cannot wait to have a genuine LD. I will certainly let all know. I had to quit talking about this to people b/c i realized how i sounded........lol :p peace all
