      Welcome to the forum

What you must remember is that lucid dreaming techniques are different for everyone, so the advice you get might not work for you.

However the best techniques which usually always work for newbies are the WBTB---Wake Back To Bed

      and the

      MILD---Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams

Getting up an hour early, staying awake for 30-60 minutes reading about lucid dreaming, doing MILD briefly, then taking a morning nap is an effective way to induce lucid dreams.

So what happens when entering lucid do you go through a spiral vortex or do you start to float off from your body or does it just happen instantly ??

Entering lucid does nothing different except that you know you are dreaming. Your clarity may increase, but sometimes you have to manually do that in your dream. Sometimes though, if you are WILDing you may try to "pull" your dream body from your real body, in which case you will see yourself sleeping or something weird like that. Then it should hit you that you're dreaming, hence becoming lucid.
