      HI! My dreams to date...

Hey all. I’m new here. Thought first of all I would post my experiences with dreaming so maybe I could have some insight.
I guess the earliest dreams i remember where the scary ones when I was young. Had the usual ones with monsters and some kind of cool ones when i was at the wheel of a car. After a while I started to come aware when I was having these nightmares and could quickly wake myself up before anything really scary happened. To do so i kind of just screw my eyes up and this woke me up. This trick did memorably fail once when i awoke into what turned out to be another nightmare involving a jack-in-the-box in my bedroom.
I also had, and still do to a lesser extend, flying dreams where i have to concentrate to keep airborne or go higher. This concentration often results in waking me up. I guess it is worth mentioning that all my dreams are very hazy and even though I can fly in some I can never run, and my movement is slow.
Scarily I once woke up to find I was paralyzed and it took a few seconds for me to regain movement, which wasn’t present. For a long time I though it must have been some sort of very vivid dream, but then I heard on the radio that this can happen. Can’t remember the name for it.
Guess some of these experiences mean I have done some lucid dreaming! Anyway, I am going into my final year of uni and thought I would to look into my dream world before I have to concentrate on the real one! Any tips would be appreciated.

      Hi, and welcome!

A lot of people experience the haziness you have, aptly named "Sleep Drunkenness." I've had it quite a bit myself.

Your paralyzed experience is called "Sleep Paralysis." Your body enters it each time you sleep, to prevent you from acting out your dream. The only time you feel it is when your body "goes to sleep" before your mind does. Many people use this to induce a Lucid Dream, a technique called Wake Induced Lucid Dream, or WILD.

To start, you should consider keeping a dream journal, either with paper, or on here. It is interesting to see similarities between others' dreams.

Good luck, and glad you found us!
Have you heard the gypsy hymns in the odd hours of the night?

Actually, it is more frequent to experience the paralyzation of sleep paralysis when waking up. That's what happened to monokey when he awoke from his dream. It actually happened to me this morning. I woke up, eyes open, but could absolutely not move any inch of my body other than my eyes. This lasted about 40 seconds. Pretty annoying.
      Stay lucid, stay WILD!

Hi and welcome to Dream Views monokey.

Sleep Paralysis and Dream Drunkeness. What fun. You will see both are kind of common occurances if you read through dream journals here.

Speaking of dream journals, you should keep one. It will help train your mind to remember your dreams and the better you get at it lesser the chances of the drunkenness.

Thanks for the welcome guys and for helping me understand some of my experiences dreaming.
Just woke up from a great night of some LDing! Really surprised that it worked the first night I tried, but the trick of thinking "Im dreaming" as I drifted into sleep worked a treat. It was much better than any partial LDing I have experienced before, more "real” and within my control. Anyway im going to keep at it and try to write down what I have been up to before I forget.
      Bye for now
