      Thumbs down WTF. dreaming

so this is going to sound weird. me & my dad always have the same dream. the dream is we're asleep, and we know we're asleep.. but we cant wake up.. I mean we lay there struggling to open our eyes... thinking pretty clearly the whole time its so weird... we'll finally get awake only to watch ourselves go back to sleep. its the scariest thing in the world. and if you keep going back to sleep itll keep happening but if you get up (like i am now) and then go back to sleep itll go away.. and come back ( usually on the same night hise does). I mean its so scary i wake up sitting up crying. sometimes my boyfriend wakes me up cause im screaming, kicking. its so weird its like im awake but im not. and i cant seem to wake up...

Are you awake when it happens? Could be sleep paralysis. If it is you could try to get into a lucid dream from there. There's plenty of WILD guides out there just search for wild.

Only other thing I can think of is night terror, I'm not sure what to do about that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_terror

      Sorry to hear about that.

If you're thrashing around, then I don't think it would be SP.

Like Blahaha said, it could be a night terror. If that's the case, then you might find this helpful:

      Best of luck.
So I had my first OBE the other day... I was completely beside myself!

A non-fear-based dream that depicts waking up in your own bed and such is called a "false awakening". Your dream seems to be a rather unplesant one at that. Be it a night terror or not.

One idea that comes to mind is this: dream incubation. If you don't want to dream about that, don't. Simply incubate dreams about what you want before falling asleep. Imagine and focus on what you want to dream about before falling asleep. Just don't try keeping focused or you won't fall asleep or not for a while.

So, all in all, try some dream incubation by imagining and willing what you want to dream about while falling asleep. Then simply drift off. The key part, just like with MILDs - Mnemonically Induced Lucid dreams, is to really want it. If you really want to have a certain dream and use dream incubation, you'll most certainly have one about that and continue dreaming throughout the night about what you had incubated.

Pinching yourself won't always (in many cases won't at all) tell you your dreaming. It is possible to feel pain in dreams if you expect it and believe it. A better way to test your reality is to count fingers (your own), try and breathe through your nose while plugging it, or look at a digital clock, note the time, then look back to see if it has changed.
