So I finally decided to do some research

      Hi Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm new to the site and only found it last night while Stumbling. The reason it caught my attention is that recently I've been having "those" dreams again and I've decided to find out what the heck is going on. For the moment I'll not elaborate on "those" dreams as I want to be taken seriously and I'm not really sure how to explain without ..well without not been taken seriously.

So for the time being I'm going to practice my lucid dreaming and use the information on this site to the best advantage.

Having read the the introduction and everything it explains I've realised that I may be one of the lucky ones. I've been having Lucid Dreams with a varying amount of control since I was 12....for those of you wondering ...I'm 30 mid July : ).

I have to say that as far as I can see I started my Lucid Dreaming with a bang.

It began with a recurring dream where I would approach the tallest building in view (always the same one, and it towers above any other visible building) and somehow find myself walking across the roof of the building. As I get closer to the edge I start to feel apprehensive and when I reach the edge I look down and can see a single leafless tree in the courtyard. My facination with this tree leads me to lean a little too far forward and I begin to fall.

As I fall towards the Tree I'm aware that I will die if I actually hit the tree. I am terrified and yet strangely exhilarated at the same time.

Without fail, this dream always ended with me waking nanoseconds before hitting the upper branches of the tree and was always followed by a feeling of me hitting the bed ...to the point where the bed would flex under me.

Now I'll tell you honestly that this dream was so vivid and I had it so many times over the course of about 3 weeks in July '89 that I still remember it in great detail. Then came the final version of my dream where I had realised that I'd been having the same dream over and over and over ... etc. In the final version I realised that I'd wake up rather then actually hit the tree and suddenly I wanted to know what would happen if I hit. Of course having read the website I realise now that I had gained at least partial lucidity at this point and I actually managed to stop myself from waking up.

That one mental act and the moment of realisation that I was dreaming led directly to my favorite ability in my lucid dreams ....the ability to fly ! I love it I love it I love it : ) Instead of hitting the tree and consequently the ground I shot off at incredible speed over the top of the tree and the surrounding buildings.

Ever since then I've had the on\off ability to recognise a dream and consequently free myself sometimes completely sometimes to a limited degree.

For the last few years I have mostly been unable to recall my dreams although my lucid dreams I almost always remember in detail(at least I think I do ...darn...that's a bit of a conundrum)

So I'd be glad of any contact regarding the above or any advice as to how to enhance my ability to remember as I'll be studying this site intensly for the next while.

I have a vested interest in trying to harness my ability to have lucid dreams although I'm not too fond of the idea of waking in the night to record dreams I'll do my best to stay focused and keep at it.

      Wish me luck peeps.
      Thank you for your time

The single most important thing you can do in enhancing recall is keeping a journal. Immediately when you wake, take notes - even if it is just a short awakening in the middle of the night. When you record the dream, do it in the present tense and do all you can to re-live it as you write.

Good luck! You already have a heck of a start.

Yeah the dream journal is an amazing tool to have for lucid dreamers, not only does it help you to get better recall but it also shows you dream signs. This helps you to know when to use reality checks.
