      Hello there

      Hey everyone,

Yet another newbie trying to attain lucid dreams. To be honest I never heard of lucid dreams before. That was until a week ago and now it has become one of my main goals in life.

I would really like to start off right, but the information and details available on lucid dreaming are almost overwhelming. I started making a dream journal, but everything I dream absolutely doesn't seem to make any sense.

Anyway, I'm a 20 year old Dutchman and my main interests are:
      Ancient history
      Philosophy
      Egyptian hieroglyphs
      Military history
      Cosmology

Any tips on starting off the right way?

Well the first step is dream recall. Always write in your journal everyday. Trust me, some of my dreams dont make sense either. And most days I wake up remembering nothing or very little, and I think very hard about my dreams, and even when you seem certain that you won't remember them, you will be surprised of how much you can remember by just thinking of them. One rememberance of a dream triggers another. If you have any other questions just ask. And whatever you do, don't give up, I didn't get my first lucid dream until two weeks after I started trying, and some people have to wait much longer.

Yay another new member! Welcome to Dream Views, Odd Eye!

I can't add much to LucidMike's excellent advise, except also to start practicing reality checks. Good ones are looking at your hands and counting your fingers (in dreams, hands are often strange); trying to push your finger thru the opposite palm (in dreams, this is often possible); and trying to breathe while holding your nose (if you are dreaming, you can still breathe.) If you practice these during the day, hopefully you will remember to do one while you are dreaming and become lucid.

One more thing, the advantage of a dream journal is also to recognize dream signs, which are things that occur frequently in your dreams. Use these to trigger reality checks, and sooner or later, you'll find your self to be dreaming.
