      WILD Technique Puzzles me

Maybe its just because I have never experienced a successful WILD, but I can't see how this works properly... Here is why I say this:

The majority of Lucid Dreams happen in REM sleep, when the brain is in its most creative state while sleeping. But, from what I understand, you do not enter REM sleep until 4 or 5 hours into your night.

When you induce from a waking state, you basically observe yourself falling asleep, in real time (or so I think it all happens in real time). Within 30 minutes, you should be exploring your very own dream world. Does the WILD process actually shorten the time it takes to achieve REM sleep?

It just doesnt seem like you would have the same kind of dream or quality using the WILD technique as you would if you did a reality check in a dream. Am I full of newbie BS?

Anyway you put it, I want to have success in inducing a WILD, because from what I hear, they're just wild.(excuse corny humor) I have troubles once I start to see flashes, I get excited and I cant keep my eyes closed without effort, and I lose concentration. How do I keep myself from waking back up?

Thats why most WILD techniques start with this: sleep for 4 to 5 hours

CT is right, you are supposed to wake up after 4-5 hours of sleep in order to be able to take advantage of the large REM periods. It takes considerably longer than 30 seconds, for most people, and you should try to focus on the HI and let go of the focus on your body and its sensations and such, in order to enter the dream world. When you focus on stuff that is in the waking life it is much harder to enter the dream world. this works both ways, as focusing on stuff in the dream world also prevents you from having the dream fade....

These guys have said it, but I'll put my two cents in.

You cycle between REM and Delta when you sleep. First thing at night, in your first cycle, you drop down to delta for an extended period of time, you will return to REM, but only for a few minutes before returning to delta.

As the night progresses, you will spend less time in delta and more in the higher states like REM.

Finally, toward morning, you will get to the point that you are not entering delta at all. You will cycle between high and low REM states.

Therefore, when you WILD, you will usually enter at the beginning of a REM period, instead of heading down toward delta.

In my case at least, I seem to enter at the beginning of a REM cycle. That gives me from 20-45 minutes of highly lucid time.

I cannot WILD at will I still have to work at it.
Maybe a 25% sucess rate for me. But unfortunately, with my current work schedule, I am only getting 5-6 hours of sleep a night, so I've not even tried to WILD in about a month!

Maybe soon! When we get this next batch of products on the market, I'm taking a couple of weeks off! Yeah! 8-9 hours a night!
