      Lucid dream uncertainty

      Hi,
Ive been following lucid dream articles and forums for awhile now, but havent put major effort into really forcing a lucid dream. I havent had any before, but last night I think I had two in quick succession, but was just interested in asking a few questions as to whether these were proper/traditional lucid dreams

I dont have very good dream recall ability, dont remember most of mine at all, and if I do only fragments. This was the same for last night, from what I recall I had one short semi-lucid type dream and then a longer more full experience after.

For the first one I remember something about being trapped somewhere, however I was quite sure that I was aware that I was dreaming, and was very pissed of that my dream was trapping me. Think I tried doing some sort of superpower type stuff to escape but to no avail.

After that I had my second one, where I pretty much immediately realised I was in a dream, and quickly proceeded to try out flying. I did a few other things throughout it, I remember trying to problem solve, possibly by asking fictional characters. At some point I tried imagining someone I was interested in irl...then stopped that little experiment - apparently dream me was smart enough to realise that prolly wasnt a good idea :p. Throughout this dream I got this constant feeling of WOW, that its actually happening sorta thing!

I didnt immediately recall these when I woke up, must have been shortly after. I didnt get the same feeling of 'omg awesome' that I did during the dream, but I did *remember* that in the dream I had felt this. (in contrast with most dreams where Im more of an observer / emotionless ).

Is it common to have such limited recall of lucid dreams? Also any ideas on how to build on this experience without doing lots of sleep timing/journalling?

      Thanks

      Welcome to Dream Views!

Two lucid dreams in one night, that's recall rather good, well done on that.

Now, it's as common to remember just fragments of lucid dreams as it is to remember just fragment so of non-lucid dreams. It's a case of building your dream recall to better this I'm afraid.

Don't think a dream journal has to be something you time waking up to write down though, maybe if you just write down little notes if you happen to wake up in the night or remember anything.

You could also keep a journal with a voice recorder, that way it's quicker and easier than writing things down.

Dream journaling helps, but personally improving sleep quality itself has helped just as much, if not more. It's at least as important as dream journaling, imo. Do you sleep a full eight hours, and is that sleep undisturbed? Try and think of anything that might be affecting sleep habits, as the slightest disturbance can throw things off. As they say, we all dream every night about 4-5 times (if we sleep 7-8 hours), so it's just a matter of sleeping and waking up right.

I used to think I never recalled dreams, but I've seen a DRASTIC improvement with just improving sleep quality. Of course, you should use a DJ, too; it's a necessity. Just don't ignore sleep quality!

      RE; richter.
You might find it interesting, Im about 10 days into the Everyman polyphasic sleep schedule, where I sleep for a main period of 3hours and 3x 20minute naps throughout the day. I had those 2 dreams during that 3 hour core period, my theory (and the theory of others) is that polyphasic sleep enhances lucid dreaming as your more in tune with your sleep cycles.

The weeks before I switched i was sleeping 7-10 hours a day, and tbh the difference in quality and everyday tiredness between then and now seems minimal
