      Should it hurt to WILD?

This is my introductory post. I've randomly LDed naturally about once a month for years, and I a few months ago stumbled on WILDing while attempting to use focusing on the mental images that float around in my mind during long bouts of insomnia. I didn't know it was called that, but one time it acutally happened, and it was exhilirating, like nothing in waking life could reproduce. So I tried to re-create the experience, had difficulty, etc.
But recently, I've figured out how to induce it pretty consistantly, but I hit an impenetrable barrier. Instead of feeling an accelerated heartbeat, like I used to, I feel intense chest pain, like my heart is pressurizing itself and is about to burst. It happened again two nights ago, and I dare not repeat the attempt. It must be a mental block, because I never feel that pain when I become lucid during a normal dream, or ever when I sleep normally, and when I force myself awake from fear of dying, the pain is instantly gone, like it never existed. But it is so intense, I can't get past it. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Have not heard of this at all. It would not be the WILD itself giving you pain, maybe it is anxiety related, or wasnt even a WILD entry at all..?

      This is pretty weird.
You never get this pain when you are normally awake?
Because this is such a serious and unusual problem, my advice, is that if you don't get any good answers to this post in a few days, than keep bouncing it once in a while ( by replying to this thread ) until someone who reads this have an idea what it could be, and also you can post about it in other lucid dream forums, such as LD4all.com and dreamport.net

If you find out some more information about it, than I'd appreciate if you post it here on this thread.

Do you feel tense or do you feel slight muscle aches after attempting to WILD. Used to be when I tried to focus or concentrate very strongly, my body would get wound up along with it, as if ready to jump into action at any time, rather then letting the muscles relax. I guess if you prolong this state too much, it could lead to something you describe.

      Just a theory,

No, it's an instantanious pain that happens in that exact instant when I feel myself slipping into the dream, and everything becomes vivid and I can hear and touch everything. It used to just be a higher pulse rate, but now it's just pain.

It could be a rare case of pain hypnagogic transition sensation. Some people feel vibrations during the hypnagogic transition state, some feel like they are moving, it's possible that you feel pain. But I'm not comfortable with this explanation, as I never heard of anyone who experiences that on a regular basis.

I think I feel a form of this vibration I read about. I start by focusing on the sensation of blood pulsing in my brain when my heartbeats. Or I imagine the sensation, I'm not sure, but when I'm sleepy, it feels real. After several minutes, the pattern of pulses begins to alter, and they start to feel stronger. Eventually each pulse feels like power surging through my pain, and I can almost hear it. Eventually it is so strong it pushed through the sleep barrier and I'm swept into the hyper-real world, and I start breathing like I just got dunked in water. This is the instant when my heart begins to feel like someone plugged the outlet side and my heart will pop. It knocks the breath out of me as well. Each instance has gotten worse than the last. At first, I could ignore it for a while, but now it's extremely painful.
And that's what makes me think it's in my head, because it only exists in that WILD zone.

My guess would be that it's an irregularity with the heart chakra. Read up on energy movement, and chakra stimulation. Do some of the exercises, try a WILD again, and tell us what happens. Otherwise, talk to a doctor about it.
