      Weird Lucid Dream

Well , i actually got my first lucid dream , and boy was it fun!

But there where some strange characteristics which jus didn't fit.

Firstly , i didn't preform any reality checks, i just randomly thought .. "Hold on a sec , is this a lucid dream ?!" "HEY IT IS!"

After that i thought i would i preform a few reality checks to make sure , but because of my surroundings i could only preform one , and that was to read something and read it again.

I recall a blue sign with the number 80 on it. I looked at it , and looked at it again , it was still 80.

Does this reality check only work with words ?

And when i tried to change my location , i spun around but i was still in my current location. I managed to change it eventually ... dont really know how but heck..

      Why is this ?

      Thanks in advance.

and YES i AM sure it was a dream

Did you do anything before you slept, like MILd or something?

      Hello GriM, to Dreamviews!
You probably couldn't move because you didn't have much control over the dream (including your dream body), which is to be expected since this is your first LD. As for the reality check, they don't always work. They usually do, but sometimes they don't. Anyway, congratulations on the LD!

First, spontaneous lucidity is fairly common for DILDs. More than half of my lucid dreams happen that way, without any reality checks at all, and from what I've read, it's the same for other people.

Second, there are many reasons to why that reality check didn't work. First of all, there's only about a sixty percent chance of text changing on the first re-reading, so if it doesn't change, you should look away and then re-read it again, which increases the odds to 90%. Second, since it was fairly short, that probably increased the odds of it staying the same, since two characters are much easier for the mind to keep track of than say, a word or two. Third, how well a reality check works varies from person to person, so that one might not work as well for you. Personally, I prefer the one where you pinch your nose shut and attempt to breathe through it, and know that if you can breathe you're dreaming.

As for spinning to change locations, that varies from person to person as well. Some people can use spinning to change locations and stabilize the dream easily, but when I've tried it, all it did was increase my chances of waking up. I think you have to visualise your destination when you teleport by spinning, so if you didn't do that, that could be your problem.

Sometimes just thinking about LDing can induce one...

      Hey there,

Remember that dreaming and lucid dreaming is not an exact science. It's a very subjective thing. What works/happens for one person might not always work/happen for you. All the techniques and faqs and knowledge that you read are guidelines, but at the end of the day, we all have to search for what works for us, and what doesn't.

So enjoy, experiment, and have fun!
