      Question Unhealthy dreaming?

I told my friend about my first attempt at WILD and he asked me to stop doing them as he claims it can damage my mentality. He says he knows a person who ended up in hospital and his brain don't work right anymore. I'm not sure if he was reffering to the WILD or LD in general. anyone know anything about the dangers of dreaming?

as far as I know there are no dangers to dreaming, its all in your head, the only thing that could happen would be a heart attack and thats pretty much it. you shouldnt worry, its just a dream.

I think your friend's brain don't work right anymore, lucid dreaming is totally safe, well except for the odd chance of being hit by an asteroid while you sleep .

What the hell? Lucid Dreaming is exactely like normal dreaming, and nobody ends up with a fucked up brain because he dreams. It doesn't harm the brain.

Nervertheless you can become addicted to it and it can go so far that you flee into it from real life. Well, I guess that's not too propable though. Lucid Dreaming and also WILDing are both 100% safe.

Edit: sugarglider, you almost got me with your sig.

Your friend either doesn't know what they're talking about or is the one with the mind problem. Dreaming is normal, the body needs to dream. We all dream about 6 times a night, give or take, whether we remember them or not. Its a necessity for the body, and you can't stop dreaming unless you take certain drugs, which have their ill side effects.

As well, everyone has likely LD'd at some point or another and just not remembered it. Its a normal thing. Most people have had an LD at some point in their life, whether intentionally or not. Again, and may not of remembered it.

WILDing is also normal. All the processes involved in a WILD are things we all go through at night. Again, its a matter of memory. We're often not conscious enough to remember what happens. Thats all a WILD effectively is, staying conscious through out the phases of going into a sleep.

All of these are normal things. If your friend says he knows someone who got brain damage because of it, there are a few options: He doesn't know what hes talking about, hes lying, or the person had some brain problem to begin with. One of the first two is more likely however.

Thanks people, i think my friend doesn't know what his friend is in hospital for. however, i think it would be possible for oneself to damage ones mind if one consistently attempted to do so, to use the SP to scare oneslef into paranoia, maybe. or just keep having nightmares. but it would take a lot of effort. and youd have to be willing to do so...

It is only possible to experience paranoia and to become detached from reality if you constantly bother yourself with those thoughts, just remember that you are in control of your mind. Also, we all experience many strange, new feelings in our attempts to LD, but you just have to remember that they are all natural. It's not right to worry about things like SP, you go through it every night whether you like it or not !

LD can be a problem if you already have some mental problems like schizophrenia.
In other words, if you are already confused, it could confuse you further. But I don't think there is any danger even in this case, this is because LD is such a difficult thing to accomplish; If you feel that it confuses you, you can always stop practicing it, and you will most likely lose the ability to LD, and come back to how you were before starting to practice.
