      How common am I?

For at least 5 years (I am 19 now) I have often realized I am dreaming during my dream, and then attempted to control it. This happens perhaps once a week. Most of the time I can control an aspect of my dream quite easily. I start flying just for fun, or wish for an object of some kind and recieve it etc... Then I usually forget that I am dreaming and continue on dreaming.

I just came to this site today. Before now I had never even heard of Lucid Dreaming. I have never "tried" to Lucid Dream before, it just happened.

A few people I have talked to say that this never happens to them or it happened once in their entire lives. Are my experiences normal? How many people can realize they are dreaming and start controlling them naturally with no effort? Are there any statistics I can look at? How many people never Lucid Dream in the entire lives?

If you have been able to control your dreams spontaneous, then you might be a natural.

I think most people have to train much or focusing intense about lucid dreaming, before they experience them.
It sounds like you have a good potencial to have many lucid dreams.
It is some naturals here before, too.

I don't know anything about statistics of how many who never have had a lucid dream, but I am very sure the most people in the world never have experienced it.
One of the reasons is that the people I talk about lucid dreaming to in the real life, don't believe it is possible.
      Are you dreaming?

      Hi and Welcome

I think everyone does experience an LD at least once in their lives. You do not sound common to me. You would think that if lucid dreaming were common that you could find more than a few books about. =P

So congrats, I expect you are in the top 2% elite!
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

      Welcome To Dreamviews FootballFan!!!!!!

My mom and younger brother are like you as well. They've always been able to control their dreams, even before they knew the definition of "lucid dream".

I'm closer to like 2-3 times per month. So yeah, you're definitely elite!

      Congrats and welcome!!!

      Welcome!!!!

I hope you can learn some more techiniques to help you be lucid even more often, or at least make the most out of every LD...
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

      Thanks for the replies

I hope I can use the info here to expand my control over my Lucid Dreaming. Just last night I used the spinning technique and it worked! Wow that ones cool.

My problem is I get pretty excited when I realize Im dreaming and I can wake up. Usually I try to forget that I know I am dreaming so that my dream doesnt end. Dreaming is fun. But now I will use the advice of staying calm, and appreciating my environment. I cant wait for another LD to try this stuff out.
