Unhappy No more dream recall ?

hey everyone. i've posted this thred before in the "help" forum but i think it wasn't the right place for it and it may have been deleted. (i'm sorry if it was wrong) anyways i have lots of problems with my dream recall and i need some hlp plz. there's my problem : I can't recall any of my dreams anymore. I have a dream journal from around 5 months. Before i could remember like 3-5 dreams per night. But now, since maybe one month i can remember only 1 when i'm lucky. usually i dont remember anything. Everynight before i fall asleep i repeat myself "I'll remember my dreams" i do everything like it should be but sudenly, it looks like i've lost my ability to dream recall. Is there something I'm doing wrong or something I'm not doing at all. help me plz!

It happened to me once, all I can say is I just kept trying, harder every time, and eventually it came to me. Incidentally, dream recall came to me with more LD's.

Have I replied to this post when it was in the Help forum? Deja vu...

The first thing I always say is it may very well be due to stress you are having or just responsibilities in your waking life that have become higher priorities than dreaming.

Something I think might work is this: set your alarm to wake you up after the first 5 hours of sleep and then every hour or hour and a half or so after than. Hopefully you will wake up while in the middle of a REM period and the dream will be fresh in your mind upon awakening. Jot it down right away, no matter how tired you are. Do this for a few days until your recall improves! After that you should have an easier time remembering dreams after a "normal" night of sleep.

Adjust your bed time but keep a steady sleep schedule. So, either wake up earlier or later than you currently are. That seems to help. Also, I hope you're actually recalling upon waking up. That is, lying still with eyes closed and thinking about the thoughts in your head, analysing them and following the emerging links to dream memories.

I've had this problem countless times...but I'm going to suggest something a bit different than the rest.

From what you've said it seems like you're becoming desperate, which is of course very easy to do with this phemomenon. I think it's time you let go. Take 2 nights, forget about lucid dreaming, instead, on these two nights, play some calming motivational music, on your player/stereo/what have you, and let it "carry" you, ride the visual waves of the music. I find that the right music gets my visual mind going. Let your thoughts wander with no restrictions with the music going. Don't even try, just let it come, and go to sleep, knowing it's in there.

Trust your mind, when you relax, and let go, and enjoy, I'm sure it will come back to you...

Good luck to you, and take it easy...

      Hey there,

Additionally to all the good advice already given, i'd advice you to make sure you're paying attention to what you're getting, not to what you're not getting!

What I mean by this is that we set ourselves standards. "Good recall means x many dreams remembered per night, with this clarity, and this lenght, etc etc". It's very easy to get fixated on what you think you should be doing, so that all your attention is on what you're 'lacking' or 'missing'.

Drop all the standards Work with what you are getting!

If you remember only one dream, then turn your attention on that dream. Think about it, write it down, try to remember it as well as you can. If you're not remembering a dream, maybe there's something else to focus your attention on. Perhaps you don't remember a dream but you had a vague feeling 'I think I was dreaming about this', or you woke up with a song in your head, or maybe you have a vague reminiscent of some sort of emotion, or even just a sound. Then write those things down, pay attention to them.

In short, work from the ground up

      Hope that helps,
