Newbie.. How to avoid a false awakening?

Mm, new to all this I've had 2 ld's so far, both of which have been interrupted by annoying false awakenings. I was wondering if anyone knew any techniques to avoid these annoying experiences?
Thanks guys.

First of all: Welcome to Dreamviews

I cannot complain about False Awakenings myself, as they got me lucid for my first time.

But a nice way out for you is to Reality Check whenever you wake up. And make sure nothing is startling your sleep. E.g. opening your eyes during a dream can cause a False Awakening.

Finally, don't take anything for granted. Nothing guarantees what you are seeing right now as reality. The only way to make sure is to be always suspiscious.

Wolf hugs, and best of luck with your lucids!

Thanks, I'll try to remember. During the first ld, and false awakening; it didn't occurr to me at all to do an RC, nor did I realise I'd previously been lucid. It was a completely different dream.. I just thought everything was as normal

RCing every time you wake up in real life should do the trick.

Welcome to the forum afc

It's great to hear that you have already had 2 lucids already

The thing that helps with FA's are Reality Checks these will help you to question yourself on if you are dreaming or not. They can turn those FA's into lucids if you're lucky

There's also an Acronyms List in the Tutorials Section just incase you needed some extra help.

Although I'm definatelly no expert on Lucid Dreaming, it would seem to me like a good idea to not get annoyed by them in the first place. If you get used to RCing every time you wake, you'll filter them out very quickly. And besides, íf you turn out to be having a false awakening, you're LD only lasts longer.

Oh, and I've never tested this theory (for I'm pretty new to LDing), but if it's possible to, by telling yourself, wake up at a certain moment, stop having nightmares, remember stuff, start flying or I knowwhat, you should be able to recude the number of FAs. It's only the fear of a false awakening that makes your subconsious think about them.
Just a theory though. As said, you can also have an FA by just opening your eyes while asleep. I think you can't filter them out completely.

Just my two cents,

I, personally like to wake up believing life is true.
You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.

Cheers for your help

It's strange, whenever I do RC's without really meaning to in dreams, I always miss what they are trying to tell me. So far I've missed the breathing with nose plugged, breathing under water, wrong reflection & different text. I feel so silly on awakening, as before I feel asleep each night, I kept telling myself I would do an RC and realise I was dreaming.

When you see the dream fading, if you cannot stop it keep repeating fast "I am dreaming, I am dreaming" and from the FA you should be saying the same thing! And prolong lucidity
