      learning to dream!

Hi all, my name is Katie and I'm a 22 year old bartender from Atlanta. Recently, I have been getting into spirituality and such, and my friend wanted me to try astral projection. But before I can do that, he said I should start with lucid dreaming.

I have been reading a lot about this in the past 2 weeks and was finally able to achieve my first lucid dream yesterday (by accident). Someone called me in the morning and woke me up, and I was unable to go back to sleep for a while. And I guess when I finally did, I had my lucid dream. I did not get to do much, but it was exhilerating and I can't wait to have another one!!

At the moment, i just ingested 1 mg of melatonin and I have my dream journal ready, with little tips on it to help remind me things. I hope we all learn something from each other.. and any tips on how to improve my dreaming skills would be greatly appreciated!

      Welcome to DV.

With a job like that... the display name... (+beingafemale) and spirituality... you'll get on with many of the people around here

      Congratulations on the lucid dream.

Here's a few links to get you started.

You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.

Hello Katie and a big WELCOME to dreamviews.

Its a fantastic experience having a LD and congrats on your first experience at one even though it was short but it does show you that it is possible.

My advise. Get good at the two basic skills, doing reality checks and improving dream recall. These are essential.
RC's should become a habit, at least every half hour, so that you will automatically do one during a dream.
Maintain a comprehensive dream journal to improve dream recall.
Dont TRY to LD yet. Get the skills going and an LD should happen, just like your first one.

Best wishes, good luck and Welcome.

      Hey, welcome to DV!

I hope you have your next LD soon, they can be incredible fun and learning oprtunities. It seems like you've already received some good advice, but one important things is not to give up. It's really worth it to stick with lucid dreaming.

(Sometimes I get extremely frustrated with dry spells or an inability to control my dream to the point where I am just about ready to flush my dream journal down the toilet. But I took a short break and read up on some more tips and now my dream control is slowly but steadily improving!)

If you feel like it, be sure to check out the monthly tasks.
